I agree with both of these.

Crisis on Infinite Earths. The entire things was marketed as a continuity blowjob, and it is a continuity blowjob. Imagine if it was the first comic you ever picked up in your life.... I knew the Dc universe pretty well back then, but even I had a lot of trouble understanding the significance of a lot of it. If you didn't know Green Lantern's mythos, as a new reader you were pretty much fucked.
