They've started re-releasing the old Green Lantern/Green Arrow from the 70s in TPBs. I was amazed at how good the stories were when I gambled and picked up that slipcase edition they put out. That's a good place to start.

Past that, where does your GL interest lie? In Kyle? Hal? Guy? G'nort? Whichever one interests you makes for a different starting point...

i dunno really i was watching superman TAS today and i watched the green lantern ep, it was really cool and i loved the origin (its hal's origin but they gave it to kyle) so i guess im interested in Hal. I want to find out how hal went crazy and when kyle took over.

The past decade or so it's been utter garbage. I would have to say that Neal Adams's run was far and away the best Green Lantern era I've ever read. The Len Wein/Dave Gibbons stuff is pretty good, too.

It was an interesting idea that was horrendously executed. Ron Marz pretty much butchered the entire thing.

Actually, Emerald Dawn is Hal's six part post-Crisis origin story, by Keith Giffen (I think) and Mark Bright. It's pretty interesting if you like the concept, I recommend it.

Emerald Twilight is the three part story arc where Hal goes nuts, written by Ron Marz. It rocks. I like it better than any other Hal story I've read, except maybe Green Lantern/Green Arrow by Denny O'neil. A lot of people will tell you it sucks, but they're either Hal fans or Animalman. It's not Emerald Twilight what sucked, it's the use that was given to Parallax after that. The GL "Parallax View" arc, where he fights the JLA, is the last good story Parallax took part in.

I recommend you start with Emerald Twilight. If you don't like it, go with the old stuff. If you do, buy A New Dawn, where Kyle's adventures begin. It's not as good as Emerald Twilight, but it sets the stage for Kyle. The first twenty or so issues after that are gold. Then it gets lame, but you might still like it if you like the characters.

Even if you decide not to go with the old stuff, I still recommend you try Green Lantern/Green Arrow.

If you wanna see some of the crappier adventures of Parallax, pick up Zero Hour or Final Night (the last stand of Hal, as it were). Both feature the good guy turned villain quite prominently.

Ron Marz is pure evil. I suffocated him with a pillow in a dream I had one time. He was projecting vomiting pea soup and twisting his head around and stuff.

Agree, and agree. Len Wein's run is very under-rated.

Plus, you get the secret origin of a new superhero:The Image. Only problem was that Wein finished his run before he could introduce that character, and the plot thread was left dangling for over a decade until someone finally killed the guy off when Coast City was destroyed. That always amused the crap out of me.

Pimping my site, again.
