You don't need "mass shifting." All you have to do is have small robots that turn into mp3 players or cell phones.
Imagine a scene where two guys are walking down the street, talking on their phones, when as they pass each other, their phones transform into robots and begin shooting at each other. And it wouldn't have to be anything other than a little one off scene.
