That makes a lot of sense, given the name of the series. I think the point of the series is making the heroes think about the consequences of having or not having a double identity.
First Elongated Man's wife bites the dust. Nobody cares about Elongated Man. Then, Atom's ex dies too. Few people care about Atom. I predict the next victim will be someone related to a mildly popular character. And the next will be related to a kinda popular character... and so on, until someone big bites the dust.
