-- Jean Loring, Atom's ex-wife just got the noose. Literally. Fucked up punch at the end!

-Deathstroke has returned! Loved seeing Slade Wilson in his prime again.

-Is it just me, or, did anyone else catch the "difference" in the memory in Light's mind, and what we were shown? Batman is present only in Light's memory. Curious, that one. Is someone playing with their minds?

Anyone got opinions on this?

Ehy, I noticed that, too. I just wrote it off as "Rags Morales, you fucked up! Odd nobody caught that..."

My problem with this issue is Flash being stabbed, yet seeming perfectly fine after the battle. The hell? I assume there's something about Deathstroke's sword I don't know?

I guess Atom's crossbow did her no good... I can't say I have the same sympathy as I did for Sue Dibny (I got to know Sue a lot better), but I can't wait to see Atom's reaction.

You may be on to something, Mr. Prometheus.

I hadn't noticed, but now I do. Mayhaps Prometheus IS onto something.

Well, Flash's powers do allow him to heal himself very quickly.

I never cared for her either, what, with all the divorcing and how she treated The Atom afterward. Can't say IC changed my mind about that, though I do feel sorry for The Atom himself. It was obvious he still loves her.

Yup -- I imagine Slade planned for Wally to be down a minute or two so he could take down the others, THEN make the round of killing blows...

I liked #3, especially Wally's lie to Superman and the side-by-side scenes of Perry and Jimmy/Jean's death.

I swear, during the Jimmy/Perry interaction, I half expected one (or both) of them to croak on the last page. To that end, I was a bit shocked to see Jean getting strung up.

I dunno. I think Metzler was working on something with Atom and Jean, trying to make us feel some sympathy towards her, but I'm not sure that it worked as well as it did with Sue. The question, as always, is 'who's next?'

My bet actually rests with Jack Drake, Tim's father. I don't know what's going on in Robin at the moment, but I really do think that with all the emphasis Metzler is putting on the relationship between the two, Jack would be a moving and emotional death.

Just a thought...

some of those names are a lot bigger than the one's Meltzer has offed so far. Unless he's keeping the big one until the end, I just don't see it.

Also, Drake's father is kinda important to the overall Robin storyline right now, and I don't see them offing him anytime soon. If they were going to, I'd think they'd do it in the Batman books instead.

But I'm probably wrong.

Just read it in the john and I have to point out there was more mind-wiping being done back in the day as I had speculated on the previous IC thread. Of course , Dr. Light was the only one they made stupid. He realizes that they made him stupid though and I would think he's going to want revenge by the end of this series!

I'm betting this series ends with the deaths of Dr. Light and Ralph together. Ewwww.....french fried rubber!

Then we'll have a deux-ex-Zatanna as she wipes the heroes identities out of the entire world. The DCU will be changed forever as they straighten that out. At long last, everyone except Gordon won't know Batmans id!

I think only the relatives of those actually involved in the JLA at the time would be candidates.

Ma Hunkel? She is long dead by now, unless I am mistaken and someone at DC is retarded enough to expect us to buy that.

Conner Hawke would make for an interesting death.

Ronnie seems like a really good candidate. The guy in the current Firestorm series got his powers from something that fell from the sky. IC #1 shows the old Injustice Gang satellite and says that Firestorm is the guy they always send to check shit out there. Maybe the villians don't leave like they usually do and get the best of old Ronnie.

Evidenly you don't read JSA. She's the curator of the JSA museum in their HQ.

I drove to another comics shop in town and managed to find a copy of #3.

Great story but man....

mysogny, thy name is Identity Crisis.

DC really has women issues, don't it?

They're props! Well written props, but props for a reaction nonethless.

But hey, what can I say, knowing DC they'll try to make amends by having the JLA go to heaven and hell and battle Neron and the Spectre for their souls back, next summer, (or something)....

I assume only one or two more women buy the farm....
ma kent, iris allenmaybe a female hero. linda west won't die because geoff protected her with the spectre memory loss plot.

Flash heals at a very accelerated rate that is why the sword wound healed so quickly.

I assume mr drake, perry, jimmy, snapper, or pa kent will buy it soon.

Rags has researched this project endlessly so i don't think he messed up by showing batman in the dr light scene. I assume it has something to do with green arrow telling wally that they chose to forget rather than remember.

great book...

Who's to say that men won't buy the farm later? People like Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Jack Drake, or Alfred Pennyworth? Also, the fact that women (specifically superhero wives) are being killed now may speak to the killer's view of women, not the publisher's.

Don't read too much into this stuff. I thought you (slightly) better than that.

I don't think DC has anything against women. That, in itself, would assume the company even has an agenda. Which isn't true. Except, of course, to make money.

The reason all the women are getting it is....well....all the heroes are men. That's just the way history has created this for us. If they want to hurt the heroes by striking closest to them, then, they go after their women. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have noticed that the pattern of death so far is related only to those with public id's. Therefore, one has to wonder how the killer (assuming it isn't someone they know) would know to strike at Tim Drake's father, as Tim is quite private with his secret. Although, everyone and their mother knows who Batman is, so, maybe this is the only logical connection for the killer.

I've noticed that the Superman and Flash creative teams must have gotten the heads-up on this series. Lois Lane and Linda Park are conviently absent during this entire story. Guess Geoff didn't want anyone playing with his toys. Funny how he used Hal as Spectre to wipe the world's memory of his ID right before Identity Crisis. Was that Geoff trying to pre-cement this new revelation into the DCU prior to IC, or, just protect his own book?

Also, I am still convinced that someone is/has messed with Ralph and the League's mind. When we first see the Sue/Light incident, it is shown through the memories of Ollie and Ralph. When we see it again, it is through Light's memory.

I think Batman was involved with it. I think he was involved, and, had his presence erased from the rest of the heroes, for reasons unknown. Perhaps, he convinced getting Zatanna to wipe everyone without their knowing? That way, he could keep tabs on even them, watching/knowing everytime they may step over the line? I don't know. Just rambling theories.

Doc, I like your Firestorm theory. It would seem to fit. Though, what they've got that can stop the Nuclear Man, I don't know.

Maybe the killer is Ron Raymond? Maybe he finally went schizo trying consider all the different voices he's had in his head over the years. Grimm, as he has told me, believes it to be Martin Stein (the other half of the original Firestorm duo). He said last time he was seen, Stein had lost his mind. Another strong possibility.

Maybe the killer is Batman?!! I wish.

I certainly hope Meltzer delivers on this...

Geoff "Bring Back Everyone" Johns. A perfect example of why I dropped JSA around issue #40. It went from being a breath of fresh air to just another fanboy orgy of redundant characters...

I dropped JSA by about the same time, not for any particular reason other than my inability to keep up with the issues. I did love when Geoff Johns was doing piling shit atop of shit for the JSA and making things as tough as possible for them. That was pretty entertaining.

Personally, I think everyone from the old JSA should be dead by now, with the exception of Johnny Thunder (did he die? I don't remember if I finished that one story arc or not). He'd just be an cranky old bastard who is pissed that some foul-mouthed black kid has his precious gay pink man-shaped electricity monster.

If we want the old JSA back, there can be miniseries or ongoings or something that show adventures from the past, while the modern day heroes are keeping the legacy or whatever nonsense Geoff Johns wants to do to keep from having original ideas for characters. Old-school is fine. Old-school can be fun. However, all I see is Johns running this book into stagnant groud by rehashing every Golden Age character, instead of trying something new. I used to love JSA. Those first few storylines really had a crisp and electrifying snap to them, and made me feel as if someone who really cared was breathing new life into this side of the DCU. It was old-school, but without the redundancy.

Sorry. I just hate what that book has become. And, by Gob, I can barely tolerate this bi-monthly schedule with Planetary. I don't want ANY other book to be like that....

That makes a lot of sense, given the name of the series. I think the point of the series is making the heroes think about the consequences of having or not having a double identity.

First Elongated Man's wife bites the dust. Nobody cares about Elongated Man.
Then, Atom's ex dies too. Few people care about Atom.
I predict the next victim will be someone related to a mildly popular character. And the next will be related to a kinda popular character... and so on, until someone big bites the dust.

What did I say this week over at the DC Boards?

"Nostalgia is the glue that holds this industry together"

This couldn't be more true for DC Comics and it mainfests itself in it's pure undiluted form monthly in the pages of JSA.

I stopped thinking of JSA as anything but obsessive fan fiction a while back. It's gotten to where Legion ended up under the Breibaum's.

RE: IC 3

Some interesting ideas being set up here.

While I still don't think Meltzer handled the autopsy results correctly, I'm willing to move on.

Some interesting issues being set up here.

First, as other posters have noted, having Dr. L's, but no the JLA's, memories of that night include Batman is...iinteresting. It could be an artists' mistake, it could be Dr. L remembering it incorrectly, or it could be that Bruce is screwing with his teammates again.

I thought the Ralph-Sue incident being the reason for the Hawkman-GA feud was a little off. Based on my knowledge of silver age JLA timelines, Ollie and Hawkman were fueding long before Z joined the league. I guess that is a retcon, however and I'll have to live with.

Wally's indignance at the league mindwiping other villains to keep their identies a secret is intriguing. DIdn't Wally have the Spectre mindwarp the whole WORLD recently? It seems a little hypocritical of Wally, at least right now.

The mindwiping of other villians didn't really bother me. Meltzer did a nice job of showing how it just seemed the thing to do until Dr. Ls went bad. Furthermore, Meltzer obviously is aware that such things, hypnotism, mindwipes, etc., were standard issue in the silver age (hell, Clark even did it to Lois in SUperman 2, remember?).

I am getting the distinct impression that this book is going to end with a mind wipe of a LOT of people, however. THere are too many issues about the ethics of same being discussed...foreshadowing, etc. And, if this book really has long term implications for DC as promised, I suspect that at least one of the victims will be a certain headstrong female reporter.

I don't think it was the reason for the feud, was it? I think the feud would have driven the two to take opposite sides, not to mention driving Green Arrow to take a swing at Hawkman.

I always thought the basis of their feud was that Hawkman was a cop, and GA was disestablishmentarian.
