Superman did it.

Superman overhears the conversation among the old JLAers. He looks stern and murderous. He's gonna crush Green Arrow's head like a melon before his narration can notice.

He moves at super-speed, so sensors would not notice him enter the Dibny household.

Superman has heat vision. He started the fire. I know, you're thinking "but they were flames, not heat vision. He could as easily sprayed some gasoline and heat visioned it to create a fire to cover his tracks. This is a man that has more time to think than Batman, as he is superfast.

Also, Superman is the only guy with a tear coming from his eyes on the cover of Identity Crisis issue #1. Isn't that odd to anyone? He's putting up an act, and overdoing it a bit.

Right. Superman is the culprit...PLEASE DISCO STEVE! Superman? Nah...

Pro -- the, uh, "chronal distortion" of the timestream is getting fairly strong, now, so I can't say for certain, but I believe you will say something about LLance being your personal lord and savior or something like that? I dunno.

And then in a while someone else will write something about getting this damn thread back on topic, and then nobody will post for a while, and then someone will bring it back up to the top of the forum for a lark, even though everyone's talking about some other crappy book by then, and then some time from now Rob's board will crash (in the cataclysmic event that will come to be known as the "Great Crash" -- not to be confused with the "Great Crash II"), and most of the old topics, such as this one, will be lost forever. Ironically enough, though, because of my warning in this post, this thread will be one of the few that several posters decided to save before the "Great Crash"... It will also be one of the rare Internet threads to be preserved forever (after the final destruction of the Internet in 2012) due to Mxy having printed it all out on his computer to read on the bus on the way to school.

By the 23rd century a cult religion (called the Identitea Crisisians of the Holy Three) will have been built around this thread and a few others, and the unidentified individual known only as "The Time Trust" will be considered to be the Prophet who foretold the coming age, "Prometheus" will be enshrined as the Father, "LLance" will be enshrined as the Mother, and "Disco Steve" will be enshrined as the Son, with the individual known as "Dave" from the down under nether-regions of Australia serving the role of the Davil.

By the year 2970, Crisisanity will be the dominant world religion, although Mxyism will quickly catch on over much of the world, followed by the depraved "end times" enforced state religion known as the JQocracy, responsible in those dire times for a string of completely meaningless and pointless terrorist attacks involving explosive hush puppies and bellybutton lint.

Luckily the planet explodes shortly afterwards, the human race being survived only by a handful of esoteric shoe salespeople with a healthy fear of open flame.

THE THING I FIND MOST AMAZING IS THAT MXY WILL STILL BE GOING TO SCHOOL IN 2012! WHAT A DUMBASS![/B]

I thought that couldn't get more redundant. And here I hoped Marz was bringing Major Force back for something original. In a GL/Guy Gardner: Warrior crossover, Major Force killed a friend of Guy's mom (a case of mistaken identity - hijinks ensued) and stuffed her in the fridge. At the end of the of the storyline Major Force kills Guy's brother (Militia), and after that Kyle and Guy catch him. So Kyle is gonna kill him for murdering Alex, but he decides he can't do it because he wants to be a hero. Guy, being a warrior instead of a hero, kills Major Force. He shoulda stayed dead then...

Interesting. I had no idea that Gardner (THE Green Lan--...oh, never mind...) killed Major Force. Cool. Yeah, I wish he had stayed dead. Of course, if dead really meant dead in comics, then, the death of a character might actually have meaning and impact. Oh well...

On another note, LLance is my Lord's savior. It's true. Frank Lord....guy that lives down the road from me....he almost walked out in front of a truck. Luckily, a visiting LLance pushed him out of the way in time. Also, luckily, the truck was in park. Now, Lord is suing LLance for personal injury, and the like. Still, if it wasn't for old LLance....

TELL YOUR DUMBASS NEIGHBOR NOT TO STAND IN FRONT OF PARKED TRUCKS PRO...and that I haven't any real money so he can sue until the cows come home but he 's not going to get shit out of me!

My theory on the ID Crisis killer? I think it's another obscure supporting character who we have all forgotten about. He;s miffed that he gets no on panel time anymore! Likely suspects? Pie-Face, Woozy Winks, Chop Chop, Ace the Bat Hound, Etta Candy...Etta Candy..? Yep! She's the fat-assed bitch behind this whole thing! She's pissed Wonder Woman would never go muff diving w/ her!

dont know if anyone still talking about the ish....but Im bored at work....and........

Actually ROY and I both read this ish the day it came out (it was lovely he held my hand and everything) and both noted the Batman....
doubt Rags messed up
It was Dr Light's memory and it could be fucked up....but i doubt it...
Take a closer look at Batman in that flashback I may be mistaken but it appears the Caped Crusader was hit by an arrow....a GREEN arrow.
My take is that perhaps Bats objected to the mindwipe so they wiped his as well...now the pre-solicted covers to IC#5 or #6 show a distraught Bats....now that could be due to the loss in War Games or it could be Bats has been hoodwinked by his pals in the JLA and realizes it. I can't imagine that Metzer would use IC to deal with Batman's loss in War Games. The only fault in this is the fact that after the Secret Society switched bodies with the JLA would Bats wonder why they never figured out he was Bruce Wayne? He may be in on the gig as someone else posted.

Back to the rape debate, while I doubt any would argue that a mature audeince disclaimer would have been appropriate but then some people would bitch "DC DID THAT JUST TO SELL THE ISSUE".
Dave the rape WAS essential to this storyline and it had to be Sue. I dont know how closely you read this but recall that this happened in the past during the satellite era. That said heres my points.

WHY a rape?
What horrific crime could occur that would make the heros so upset that they needed the villians mindwiped? Villians have found identies out in the past and those crafty heros always found a way to either hoodwink the villian. Or in the case of the Flash Heat Wave unmasked him and didnt know who the fuck he was! A rape was essential because it is more an act of the humilation and Dr Light bragging about what he did.
Then after that the heros would think...well we wiped Dr Light's memory that one time...why not again....

Why not the hero himself?
Again this was set in the past and a hero on the team would have had to have deal with that for sometime. But devil's advocate lets say its all handled off handled (which again works easier for Sue), think of it from a reader's perspective...if Elongated-Man is raped noone would take it seriously and laugh at what a pansy he is. Unfortunately thats the common thought about male rape. Think about Deliverence did they have hunky Burt Renolds bummed by rednecks or the wimpy Ned Beatty?
Not to mention the anger it stirs up inside if you think of it as YOUR loved one getting raped. Most males would never imagine themselves as even a remote possibilty of getting raped being an issue (save prisoners) because they're too tough to let it happen. And as mentioned DC doesnt even have a mainstream gay character and you want them to do a homosexual rape?

Why Sue?
Again its in the past at the time Ralph was the only hero in the JLA whose identity was none to all. It would have been commonplace for Sue to have been on the sattelite while the team was away. It wouldnt make sense to have Carol Ferris on the satellite as not everyone knew Hal was GL.

Is Dave effected by his daughter's birth?
He would be a heartless man if he wasnt (waitaminute he IS a lawyer). C'mon Dave not the fact that your babies are girls but more the fact that your act of sex created something you love and care about regardless how much she resembles a toad. Dont you think that maybe even unconsciously you are effected by the depravity of the act of rape in comparrison to the fact that sexual intercourse with someone you love gave birth to your loving daughter?

Dr Freud, your couch is comfortable, but your prognosis is wrong.

Here is a deep dark secret which I don't normally reveal to people: I have a literature degree, and as part of that degree I had to study Marxist-Leninist literary theory (using literature as a tool for class oppression) and feminist literary theory (using literature to keep women oppressed). I have sympathies towards both types of literary theory, although I recognise their limitations as being skewed and overly sensitive tools of critique. That is where my criticism of IC comes from.

Philisophically speaking, I'm in a quandry: on the one hand, from a feminist perspective, the depiction of violence against women is simply another example of reinforcing the paradigm that violence against women is acceptable.

On the other hand, I'm a social nihilist (do whatever you like, as long as it doesn't harm others), which means that you should be able to write graphic rape scenes to your heart's content, if that is what gives you jollies, as long as you don't carry it out.

Being a father has nothing to do with it: as I have said, The Killer indulges in rape in Wanted, and I have no objection to that, in the context of the story, at all.

Yeah. I still think it could have been a male hero, though. Or Steve Trevor. Male rape doesn't need to be depicted as funny. It could have been brutal. In fact, it might have been an opportunity to disperse the idea that male rape is a gag. Years ago I remember watching a Tom Selleck movie (there weren't many of them) where Selleck got framed and sent to gaol. There is a scene where he walks past a male gang rape. Gave me the creeps. Light could have blinded Elongated Man, The Atom or Green Arrow and done the same thing. Or given one of them head injuries so they were easily overpowered.

Innocent Man...yeah I was shocked it was a quite decent film! And that scene was striking!

But think back to Deliverence "Squeel like a pig!" as creepy as that was it still gets laughs.

Honestly Dave do you think that the average consumer would find it anything other than ridiculous if E-Man was raped by Dr Light?

Doesn't the fact that the do good heroes of the Satellite Era JLA lobotomized Dr. Light show that the act isn't acceptable and will be punished? I think the reaction of the heroes punches holes in that argument.

I was wondering when someone would raise that specifically.

The context is a fantasy medium, filled with women with enlarged breasts and fishnet stockings. It depicts a scene of a woman getting raped. Other characters react violently against the character. That doesn't erase the fact that rape was depicted in a fantasy medium.

I had raised it before. Just wondering when you'd get around to answering it.

Aren't TV and films a fantasy medium as well. What about depictions of rape and violence in those mediums. Does this also mean that you have no problem with the depictions of violence in comic books?

But you see Sue isnt the fishnet big boobie chick is she?
She is the wife of superhero....having her raped really adds to the emotion of it all and the reaction of the other capes and them worrying about that happening to their loved ones.

I understand your emotions re: rape but in this case I really dont think it was rape for rapes sake. I think it was to engage the reader to feel that raw emotion of one of their loved ones getting assaulted. It would NOT have worked having it happen to ANY hero as that would just make that hero look weak and not pitied.

It is easier for a male to become emotionally charged about the rape of a loved as that is more pallitable to most males as the block the thought that they to can be raped.
