I like the artwork too. It's like Dan Jurgens on a good day with anathomy and perspective knowledge.

I think the characters' pupils being seen through the masks is a nice touch.
That scene with Elongated Man crying and totally losing form at the funeral really gets me.

Rags is a great fucking artist. He was really a factor in me picking up the Hawkman book. I was pissed he was taken off of it; but I'm glad as hell that he's doing IC.

Another post about Rags that doesn't have anything to do with IDENTITY CRISIS:
It was stupid of DC not to let Rags do the covers for HOURMAN until later on in the run. I avoided that comic like the plague because of the ugly cover artwork by Scott McDaniel (I am not a fan) and never even bothered to check inside despite my being a time travel aficionado.
I didn't even start picking up the book until issue #7 or 8 after recommendations from HourGirl at the DC boards (who sent me some hard-to-find earlier issues, in fact, for which I will always be grateful), and with those issues I realized what a great book it was. It had great storytelling, naturally, but the artwork by Rags Morales was fantastic!
I sincerely believe that DC's hare-brained choice of McDaniel as cover artist for the first few crucial issues of HOURMAN was a factor in that book's cancellation.

McDaniel is a hack. I'm tired of this psuedo-manga bullshit he draws. Ugly as hell. Rags is the guy I want doing the penciling chores on Superman on a regular basis. And, with IC, I think he's only gotten better. Part of what made me feel for these characters in this story is how well his work is bringing forth their emotion. Good stuff.

I've always liked Rags artwork and have wondered why he hasn't been thrusted into the limelight by the powers that be.

Aren't TV and films a fantasy medium as well. What about depictions of rape and violence in those mediums. Does this also mean that you have no problem with the depictions of violence in comic books?
What do TV and films got to do with a comic populated with characters aimed at young teenagers?

But you see Sue isnt the fishnet big boobie chick is she? She is the wife of superhero....having her raped really adds to the emotion of it all and the reaction of the other capes and them worrying about that happening to their loved ones.
I understand your emotions re: rape but in this case I really dont think it was rape for rapes sake. I think it was to engage the reader to feel that raw emotion of one of their loved ones getting assaulted. It would NOT have worked having it happen to ANY hero as that would just make that hero look weak and not pitied.
It is easier for a male to become emotionally charged about the rape of a loved as that is more pallitable to most males as the block the thought that they to can be raped.
That makes more sense to me than anything else I've read here - particualrly as you point out that it was not Black Canary or Zatanna, in their fishnets, who were raped. While I see your point, I'm still not entirely convinced. While the rape might doubly serve as a vehicle for the plot, it still stands as a rape in a fantasy medium. There might be some literary merit to using it, but the fact remains.

I don't mind his work. I liked the art on Virtue and Vice (the only thing I liked about that book), but some of his art gets a bit dodgy - Zatanna's face looks very odd from time to time, for example.

Yeah I make the point earlier about the same characters appearing in JLAdventures (aimed at a demographic of around 10-12) appearing in IC being my main cause for complaint.

Back to Rags' artwork!
I met him at a comic con with my nephews in Baltimore with Geoff Johns...both were terrific! Super to the kids and me. It was when he first started on Hawkman and had him do a sketch for my nephew of Hawkman and I was thinking what I wanted and I had him do an Ace the Bathound leading me to collect the same from otehr artists! I also got a wonderful sketch of Hourman for my brother. At the time my brother was unfamilar with his work. But loved the sketch framed it and hung on display immediately!
too blessed to be stressed

I've liked Rags' artwork since the Black Condor comic! How long has that been now? 13 years or so? Maybe he's doing a big Maxi-series now but Rags should have been elevated to superstar status many moons ago!

Carlos Pacheco did the art for Virtue and Vice.

Yeah, I always seem to forget that Rags did that Black Condor series -- that was a good series. It's a shame it didn't last. I still don't know BC's full story...

Oh. Oh well. In that case, I'm lukewarm on his artwork.
