fine.
but even in your world, if two athletic combatants draw parallels, seeing a fight between them always helps to "finally" put one above the other.
rock got a major status surge from beating hogan (that was squandered, really, with his decision to leave the business).
quote: Originally posted by thedoctor: So, let's see. Beat Hogan, become a larger icon in wrestling. Does that mean, by your logic, that Goldberg is now a wrestling icon?
no, not at all
the rock beat hogan and became a larger icon. it was hailed as an icon vs icon bout. anytime a big gun beats a big gun, they become bigger.
but its not based on the transitive property -- it doesnt automatically relay itself to everyone. for example, batman takes out superman and becomes an ass kicking machine. but if the riddler beats batman in the next issue, that doesn't make the riddler top dog.
rock's status got a big jump by defeating hogan. but kurt angle didn't get nearly as much.
quote: Originally posted by thedoctor: Hopefully these guys are learning something because this isn't helping their images to the public. When Christian teamed with Jericho, you could see a slow change on his delivery of comic moments. So, being teamed with Y2J really did help Chris's performance on that level. Maybe Piper can teach O'Haire something about being a villian. And maybe Trip will learn how to have charisma from Flair. (Then again, he'll probably just keep fucking the boss's daughter to stay on top.)
and, really, tho we'd all love to see more development, what more can you hope for? the process of getting someone over takes a few weeks at the minimum. and with the 8,000 characters they have (not even counting the old guard), there's just little focus to accomplish that.

Ok two points I`d like to make!
1)In the Wrestlemania fight the fans started supporting the heel (Hogan) & started booing the face (Rock),this was the catalyst used to propell The Rock into his current heel status!
2)You say Hogan put Lesnar over, but surely Taker,Rock & every other superstar who laid down for Lesnar put him over! Beating Taker in a hell in a cell & F5`ing Big Show probably did more for Lesnar than beating Hogan did!

true. and i think it elevated his overall status even more so.

i didn't mean to say hogan did it alone -- he's just one of those who helped by jobbing to the guy not even at a pay per view!

They always need new stars you dope, they cant possibly expect the stars of today to all be wrestling in ten years time,& they especially cant expect the stars of yesterday to still be wrestling! If new young guys dont come along, then there is no WWE in the future! What a ridiculous statement Rob!
Lesnar is getting the push that Hogan got when he started so maybe back then WWF didnt need Hogan by your logic!

and if there's no existing stars to carry and push them, then there is no wwe in the current time.
saying there was no need for hogan was just as ridiculous as saying there was no need for lesnar

Yet there are already existing stars: Austin, Rock, Taker, Angle, Trip.
Personally, I think it was all just Vince making Hogan eat all those nasty things he said about him.
Hogan is only good for the nostalgia crew, and their numbers are dwindling. Ratings didn't spike or even slightly increase with his resurrection in the WWF. His position as a top name in the business has drastically fallen off and gives him little credence as a threat to any of the younger talent.

...
check every ppv buy rate from 2001 and compare it to the equivelant ppv from 2002 that hogan was in. also note the significant drop off in the 2002 ppvs hogan was not in.
tv ratings have also jumped up a bit during his appearances, but have, overall, lowered greatly (due to dying audience and show branding)
quote: Originally posted by thedoctor: His position as a top name in the business has drastically fallen off and gives him little credence as a threat to any of the younger talent.
he's not the name he was, sure. but he's still a big name, even in your world.

I dont understand why Raw gets so much stick nowdays. Raw & Smackdown are no different right now except that Raw has more top names on its roster!

quote: The Mr. America gimmick is said to be the co-creation of Vince McMahon and Hulk Hogan.
Originally Shane McMahon was set to feud with Hogan, but those plans have been put on hold for now.
The idea to put Sean O’Haire with Roddy Piper was Bruce Pritchard’s, largely in response to the notion that the big name stars weren’t doing enough to give the rub to newer talent.

quote: - Vince McMahon has spent alot of time booking his fued with Mr America. Even though all storylines are shown to Vince, he is spending extra time on his storyline with Hogan right now. Many people are saying that Vince isn't sure how to fix all the problems in the WWE right now, so he is spending alot of time making sure at least his program with Hogan is going well.

Getting rid of Hogan would suddenly cure the shows? Bullshit. They sucked for well over a year before Hogan returned. It's all well and good that you hate Hogan, Nowhereman, there's nothing wrong with that. But how exactly would getting rid of Hogan suddenly make Triple H, Kevin Nash, Steve Austin, Goldberg, etc. interesting again? How would it give Booker T and others the pushes they deserve?
It wouldn't. Period. There's bigger problems than Hogan running around in a mask here.
Get rid of the writers. Bring in good writers. That's how you fix the shows.

Good writers would definitely be a step in the right direction. Then you have to get their ideas past Vince and the egos at the top (nee: Hogan, The Clique).

Mr. America got his first win Sunday at Judgment Day, and Mr. McMahon must be more furious than ever. Hogan has found an unlikely ally in a young, one-legged fan named Zack. Will Mr. McMahon and Rowdy Roddy Piper came after the two full-force? Find out on SmackDown
They have now corrected the mistake and put Mr America in where it said Hogan

seeing as vince as final say, and he's probablly the one who was trying to get guys like goldberg, and letting hhh put his buddies in the spotlight, vince needs to go.

Heh, that guy will always be Razor Ramon to me. I think I said Hall because I confuse the two since they stopped going by Diesel and Razor.
And what happened to the 123 Kid?
