I guess I don't think of it as potentially fatal for whatever reason. At least the post can exist in the context of a match, and get a point across. Does anybody remember just one time when seeing the sledge used actually heightened a story? The chair, Rock/Foley "I Quit"; the post, Bret v. Owen WM X. That's just off the top of my head.
