No, I understand the social message. That wasn't a problem with the movie. I didn't like the editing cuts, mostly. And I understand that to have also engaged the audiance in other emotions with the film would have been too heavy and alienated the audiance from participating due to its shocking nature, I just find it missing from my standpoint. The lack of character involvement was probably heightened by my watching The Man Who Laughs the day before because that film had such magnificent tension in the characters and plot.
