When you're playing with a pre-established character, you're making it your own, but there's a thin line when you're doing this. Putting your own beliefs/interests/politics into a character is fine when it's appropriate. Grant Morrison did this in Animal Man, with animal rights activism and what-not. It worked perfectly, because it gave the character meaning and was logical. Devin Grayson doing this with Nightwing is pushing it. Does it enrich the character? Or is it the result of immature fan fictionism? It sounds like the latter to me.

Yeah, but that's a horse of a different color, and a reason why I'm not criticizing Animalman. That facet for Animalman is so incredibly blatant that even I would realize the air of obviousness is so heavy that there's no room for comment. But I'm concentrating mainly on the Ruckas and Graysons, the ones who take it too far and are currently dominating comicbookdom right now.

I wouldn't call the case of Animal Man "a horse of a different color," as it is the exact same thing as Grayson's intention to make Nightwing bisexual, the only difference being that it's not only appropriate, but logical.

Pariah, you must explain the problem with Greg Rucka to me. What I've read of his (bit of Detective Comics, Elektra, couple of issues of Wonder Woman...) seemed ok to me.
