I think that, if JMS had, for example, arbitrarily retconned 40 years of Spiderman continuity to make "puny Parker" a "playa" who was sticking his dick into lots of chicks, instead of the nerdy guy who had a hell of a lot of trouble keeping the few girls he actually got dates with, we'd be equally pissed off.
