Information
"Krypto: The Superdog" animated series will air on Cartoon Network premiering in the U.S. on April 1st, 2005.
Superman, Streaky the Cat, and Lex Luthor are set to make appearances in the 1st season, which consists of 26 thirty minute episodes.
Season 1
Synopsis:
Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a ... dog! It's Krypto The Superdog!
Jettisoned to Earth after countless years orbiting in space as a test-pilot puppy aboard a malfunctioning rocket ship built by Superman's father, the fully grown Krypto immediately seeks companionship on the strange new planet, gravitating toward young Kevin Whitney, a boy who longs for friendship.
Endowed with an awesome array of superpowers--from heat vision to superior strength to flying--Krypto partners with Kevin to fight the evil forces that threaten the safety and well-being of both people and animals in Metropolis.
Joining Krypto and Kevin in their never-ending crusade are Bathound, Streaky the Cat, and the Dog Star Patrol, a group of selfless mutts who patrol our solar system for signs of trouble from villains intent on taking over the world. Join the amazing adventures of Krypto The Superdog!

An alien dog, Krypto, is shot into space from the plant Krypton on what was to be a temporary test flight. But when then planet Krypton explodes, the ship goes into automatic pilot and the canine enters a state of suspended animation. Years later, the ship enters the Earth's atmosphere and plunges with such force that the craft tunnels through the Earth's crust, surfacing in young Kevin Whitney's backyard. An adventurous and slightly mischievous kid, Kevin is new to Metropolis with no one to play with--until now. With Krypto in Kevin's life, the boy's world has endless possibilities.

It's only fitting that they plan to air it on April Fools Day, exactly seven years after they planned to announce who Cartman's father was.
The least you can do is make the joke more clever by saying they'll air it on April 31st.
Besides, Krypton is not a plant. Krypton is a planet. It's in the mythos.
