....and I don't want to wade through the flames on other threads to say it.
Now that George Bush has been elected, I feel it is my duty to give him the benefit of the doubt(he is the President, like it or not), to support him when I can, to praise him when I think he's done right, and question him when he's done wrong.
No matter who had won the election, there could be no denying that the country is bitterly divided. It is the President's responsibility to fix that. I sincerely hope he does.
MisterJLA is RACKing awesome.

I was sick of the way this country was divided years ago, and hated that division more than anything else. I'm more than ready for the healing to begin. We're long overdue to becoming "one nation under G-d, indivisible."
Too bad some people around here don't feel the same way.

Yea, alot of people are offended that you would support such a backwards concept as our nation being under God, but I'm with ya brotha!

Here's a neat li'l song by the only Christian rock band that I like, which goes over the subject.
Quote:
For all the people in the world that don't understand
Exactly what it is we have here in this motherland
See the Father's hand started up a master plan
There's been many through the test of time take a stand
But had they ran who knows where we would be now
I thank God it's something I don't have to think about
Instead my thoughts are on the ones who laid it on the line
KIA gave their lives to let freedom shine
But in the meantime I think of those of your kind
And wonder how it is you get things so messed up inside your mind
Just think a second how long it's been going on before you
They're the one's who even helped you have the right to argue
[Pre-Chorus]
Stop complaining move along
Open your eyes and see what's going on
We need to get back to the ways of the days of old
One nation under God indivisible
[Chorus]
All the people let me hear you give a holler
In God we trust, In God we trust
We stamp it on our penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar
In God we trust, In God we trust
The people of the nation let me hear you give a holler
In God we trust, In God we trust
We stamp it on our penny, nickel, dime, quarter, dollar
In God we trust, In God we trust
The other day I saw the news somebody else complaining
They want the motto taken off of the Benjamin Franklin
They got a problem with my God and that I believe in it
But the don't got a problem with the money when they spend it
They're so offended by 4 words that need no explanation
In GOD we trust the motto of this greatest nation
Not just a motto but something that we truly believe
If you don't like it you can pack a bag and you can leave
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus] 2x
One nation under God indivisible
You can't take back that, that was never yours
It's got a nice tune to it.

There are many words in that song.
Again, though, those lyrics are solely based on the personal beliefs of the writer. They prove nothing unless you already share those same beliefs.
It's got a nice tune to it, tho.

Actually, I've gotta correct myself now. The motto really is "In God We Trust." I was taught that the motto is "E Pluribus Unum" (One from many), which appears on the national seal. I just looked it up, though, and the motto was officially changed by Congress in 1956 to "In God We Trust" during the McCarthy communist witch hunt, partly to separate the democratic US from the "atheistic communists". We also added "under God" to the pledge, "So help me God" to the oaths for certain offices, and put "In God We Trust" on paper money during those years. All of those are being challenged, though.
Now back to your original thread.

It is not the President's duty to fix some great divide in the nation. 49% of the US is insane and the other 51% are less so. Why should you reach out to people who generally hate you and all that you stand for? A civil war is more likely to happen than a party reaching out to another when they have absolutely nothing in common....come on. The majority of the nation stood for Bush and the rest stood with Kerry. Why shouldn't the losing side heal the divide and come to Bush's side and heal the nation?
The two parties have absolutely nothing in common..period.
That said I voted for Peroutka and the constitution party..so don't think this is partisan...

It was a very thin majority (1percent). It's going to take more than the losing side to heal the divide. Part of the problem is the President. He ran for re-election exploiting the division. Some of his campaign commercials didn't just attack Kerry but also liberals. Now he is in a position where he can either reach out or not. The previous Presidents in my lifetime have all been able to overcome differences & work with the other party. Lets see what happens.
We all have something in common BTW, in that we're all Americans. The terrorist hate all of us & our culture.

That's some interesting math there.
Bush is the 1st president in 16 years to break the 50% mark. I would call that a mandate BABY!

The only thing I can think of to say in response to this is that I disagree completely and totally. Any American President that's only concerned about the half of the country that voted for him is an evil, disgusting excuse for a human being.

Seriously though, your math is wrong. Even if Wednesday's right that it's 49-51, that's not 1% and according to CNN it's 48-51. Call it what you want, it is still bad math.

I get really sick of reading liberal rationalizations based on historical "facts" that are so buttfucking wrong !
PENNY: "In God We Trust" began with the Lincoln Cent in 1909 (launched in 1909 to commemmorate the 100th birthday of lincoln in 1809. Lincoln, like G.W.Bush, was a very unpopular President in his day. I'll leave it to others to decide whether Lincoln is now revered or hated.)
NICKEL: "In God We Trust" began with Jefferson Nickel, launched in 1938.
DIME: "In God We Trust" began with Roosevelt Dime, launched in 1946.
QUARTER: "In God We Trust" began with Barber Quarter, launched in 1892.
HALF DOLLAR: "In God We Trust" began with Barber Half Dollar, launched in 1892.
SILVER DOLLAR: "In God We Trust" added to Liberty Seated dollar in 1866.
You will note these inscription dates pre-date McCarthyism by many years, the last by almost a century.
Joseph R. McCarthy himself was born in 1909, and was the U.S. Senator of Wisconson from 1946-1957.
I also posted a complete history of the Pledge of Allegience, and when "under God" was added, in this prior topic:

You forgot vitrol and viciousness and all your other cute little keywords, though. I hate having to keep reminding you. How are we going to get you that daytime spot on Geraldo if you don't stick to your guns? Marketing, man, marketing!
By the way, the t-shirts are due to arrive next thursday. No word on the bumperstickers, though.

Wow! You're so out of it!
How does anything you said discredit anything I said? It was not the national motto until 1956. Period. There's no getting around that. I said it appeared on PAPER MONEY in the 1950s, which, funny thing, you didn't get to in your list.
If you weren't so busy trying to discredit everything liberals say, you'd actually have time to read the posts.
Aaaaand you're done.

You will note these inscription dates pre-date McCarthyism by many years, the last by almost a century.
Joseph R. McCarthy himself was born in 1909, and was the U.S. Senator of Wisconson from 1946-1957.
You wish.
I think I proved quite well that "In God We Trust" was inscribed on virtually all our currency, and nationally known, long before it was ever even potentially influenced by McCarthy. Decades before McCarthy was even born.
"In God We Trust" wasn't introduced by McCarthy, and he couldn't have singlehandedly gotten it inscribed on currency as you allege.
Buttfucking wrong on your part, as I said.

You tell 'em, Davey boy! Show those dirty liberals the right way to buttfuck!
Y'know, without personal insults, you'd have no opinion at all, Animalman.
I've seen you again and again lash out with the insults against me, G-man, WBAM, MisterJLA and others. All you prove is what an angry, whiny little uninformed misfit you are. Who lashes out with mocking insults, because he hasn't got an intellectual leg to stand on.
I already hung you out to dry in many prior topics, particularly this one:
Do Liberals HATE America? ( Animalman meltdown ) HERE

Come now, David. It's quite clear that you're the one having the meltdown in that thread(I still love that bit about me declaring a "holy war" on you, I swear that was "divinely" inspired). Although, that's not really saying much. You've made meltdowns a regular part of your posting schedule recently. You make a post(usually to defend yourself by blasting liberals because you can't take a joke), someone responds, then you meltdown, go crazy, and stomp away to stew for a few weeks so you can come back and do it all again.
As for the "hung me out to dry" bit, I didn't realize you were keeping score. Frankly, I, like many here, have simply stopped trying to debate with you because having a conversation with you is like having a conversation with an automated telephone recording. You can say or type whatever you want, you're still going to get the same response back, predictably and consistently.
I have to admit, though, on a boring weeknight with little else on the telly, you do provide some small bit of entertainment.
Thanks, again. See you in 8 weeks.
MisterJLA is RACKing awesome.

I never said it wasn't. I said it was added to PAPER MONEY in the 1950s.

I never said it was, and I never said he did. I said Congress added it during that period.

1) Why did you open the door then?
2) Why did you keep responding then?
