My best friend bought it and was pissed to find he couldn't actually play the damn thing until the manufacturer released it on multiplayer or something like that. I loved the first one, and Counter Strike is so much fun to play when you've got a lot of people

Not knowing anything about the game save for the usual packaging artwork....

can anyone explain to me why the main character looks like a heroically aggrandized version of a typical gamer dweeb?

If anything, that has turned me off of even considering that game.

You'd think that, given his dangerous line of work, Gordon Freeman would opt for contact lenses.

All the other scientist characters in the original Half-Life are so nerdy that you can’t believe that they’ve gone through the same weapons training that he has.

The character in Second Sight is blatantly modelled on Freeman in his appearance (That is before he gets his head shaved and experimented on.) Like Gordon, he’s a geek who just happens to be physically fit and incredibly proficient in the use of firearms.

There’s a level in the game where he undergoes military training and has to hang down from a ledge and pull along with his hands, and he has these bulging biceps as if he does hours of weight training in his spare time.

The first Half-Life youre just a scientist on a routine day at work. An experiment goes horrendously wrong and youre forced to defend yourself against the horde of creatures that youre trying to explain to yourself why the hell everythings going apeshit.

I like the fact that your just a joe blow suddenly kicking ass versus a Duke Nukem type. Luke Skywalker started off as a geeky farmer boy. He ended up pretty hardcore. That whole warriors journey thing.
