Chewy's gonna post his final bit in #2 in a couple of days. In the meantime, let's get into Oktoberfest.

A little change of pace. Something fun. What better way for Paragon to build some team solidarity than by sending them all out to get drunk together?

Ocktoberfest is not just about getting intoxicated. It is a look into the cultural history of -- oh look, free beer! Time to reinforce the college stereotype! Whoohoo!

Good stuff from Pro/Ozzy in both stories. Very funny. Great pacing on Baxter's dialogue interruptions.

Good stuff. Good team dynamics.

Let me tell you something, just because something is in a graphic format doesn't mean it needs to be apologized for. And just because a novel is serious, doesn't mean it's serious fiction. The only thing comics should worry about is telling a good story. You do that and people will find it. -Brad Meltzer

Oh, it's coming! Don't worry.

Slight edits made to the last Siege post. Added a bit of dialogue. .

It iz very hard to write in German accent, ya?

(By the way, the History Channel was showing 'High Hitler' last night. It was about the Nazi boss and his drug addiction. Funny.)

Great stuff, CJ!

I hope you don't mind me taking liberties, but, I didn't want Ozzy and Adem (or at least Ozzy) tied down so early in the story....

Hey there. I know I'm not technically a member of the team, but I've read this story and bits of siege and I gotta say, I'm impressed. You guys are good. And much easier to follow than original Vanguard

Much appreciated, man.

You are welcome to join in. As you can see, we do an even mix between serious and light plots. Create a character that you think would fit, and come on in. If you need any pointers, insight into characters, or anything of that nature, just ask it here in this thread and one of us can help fill you in....

Well, I'll do that ASAP. I'll need to bone up on the characters, but you have a bios thread and Grimm's Vanguard Files should help

Excellent.

I don't know how familiar you are with comic books, but, if it helps, here's a quick cheat-sheet, based purely from MY perception (the other writers may have something else to say)....

Drake Marshall

-Field Leader

(Abilities) : Captain America/super-soldier
(Personality) : A newly-wed who is trying to divide his time between his wife, his wife's company for which he helps run, and, having been made field leader of this team. Easy-going, intelligent, and well-rounded, Drake is aware of his position, but it does not cloud his ability at being 'one-of-the-guys'. Has worked with Ozzy Baxter and Adem Different when they were part of the La Perdita team. Ozzy looks up to him, due to his past as an urban vigilante.

Edmund Gaunt

(Abilities) : The Shade (from DC's Starman)
(Personality) : The Shadow Chancellor. Pleasant, but, aloof. Very deadpan, dry wit/humor, if any. A strange figure, cloaked in shadows. Even the rest of the team isn't quite sure what to make of him at times. Has early ties to the founder of the team, Doctor William Paragon.

Icarus Sidewinder

(Abilities) : Hawkeye's marksmanship/ The Rocketeer
(Personality) : Hot-headed, impatient, and way too sure of himself. Not an asshole on purpose, but, his arrogance means he doesn't have to work hard to be one.

Lady Lykopis

(Abilities) : Hippolytia-Wonder Woman / Xena
(Personality) : Regal, imposing, and confident....and will dro your ass like a bad habit. Loves weapons, and rarely feels at ease without being armed in some fashion.

Adem Different

(Abilities) : Columbo-meets-Doctor Who
(Personality) : Think Jeff Goldblum or Tom Baker from Doctor Who....only stranger. An alien detective who is open to learning, and understanding humanity. Not nearly as naive' as he may lead others to believe. An absolute master-detective, who could make the best forensic specialists on the planet blush with shame. Has previous team-ties with Drake and Ozzy. Strong friendship with Ozzy (think 'The Odd Couple' times one-hundred).

Ozzy Baxter

(Abilities) : David Dunn from the movie Unbreakable. Absolutely impervious to any physical harm.
(Personality) : Easy-going, friendly, and without hint of arrogance or presumption. Gambling habit to the extreme, he is the definite underdog that feels much more at home being with the common man than any 'superheroes' or royalty. Basically, the every-man who can't be hurt. Has strong ties to Adem and Drake. Hero-worships Drake, due to past heroics. Strong friendship with Adem, do to their polar opposite natures.

Doctor William Paragon

(Abilities) : 1938-level Superman/ Doc Savage
(Personality) : A mix between Planetary's Elijah Snow and Justice League International's Maxwell Lord. Mover, shaker, business man extraordinaire. A heart of gold, and strong sense of purpose to help others. Strong friendship with Edmund Gaunt, based on unknown past circumstances. The only one that really understands Gaunt, if nothing else.

Penny Goodweather (Secretary/Assistant)

(Abiltities) : Some form of electronic/digital empathy, i.e. can read email with her mind, control computers, etc.
(Personality) : You'd have to ask Cowgirl Jack. I've taken stabs at her twice, now. Don't know if I've gotten her right either time.

Hope this helps, and doesn't come off as overwhelming. Check out Grimm's Vanguard Files Thread. The pics he chose may help bring the characters into a clearer view....

The GA Superman/Savage mix is pretty dead on. The only thing he really shares with Snow is his tailor. Paragon's a humanitarian. He's working to change the world for the better, in various ways.

Multitasking. Think one of these CEOs that sleeps four hours a day, writes books, lectures, runs businesses, etc. all in a day. A very public and active figure. Paragon's always doing something, his mind is always working, and he has his fingers in several pies.

Snow if he wasn't so insular and bitter. Lord if he wasn't so self serving. Tony Stark without the alcoholism.

Yes, he's an uber character, but he's not on the field team.

I don't consider Paragon an uber-character at all, really. He is the best of the best at what he does. Doesn't make him uber, unless he is always the one saving the day, and never being beaten in any form or fashion. Just my take, you know....

Tommy Foxe, eh? I like! Can't wait to see how he fits into the mix.

Now, let me ask....can Foxe morph to look like other people, I assume?

Also, just so you know, as Vanguard is set up like a business, it will probably take one of the Vanguardians to bring him to the attention of Doctor Paragon, to get him a job offer. Just be patient, and enjoy intermixing your character into the story, and I'll take care of the "interview" part for your character at the end. That way, he can be on probationary-newbie status for the next mission they are assigned.

It's all politics, my dear Monkey...

Grimm: Loooooooove the Gaunt stuff! Brilliant ideas on his Shadow Chancellor responsibilities. Can't wait to see more.

CJ: I am seriously loving this 'Highlander'/ancient look-back for Lykopis. The historical aspect of this character is certainly painting a far deeper picture than what you began with. I am certainly loving this take on her, and am even finding it comfortable in developing this 'adversarial' relationship with Baxter. Well done.

Pro, I have a bet for you. The next reference to Indiana Jones must feature this line from The Last Crusade:

"How did you know [whatever the senario is]?"

"She talks in her sleep."
