Heh. Seriously... no, I mean it....my intention is not to create that type of relationship between Lykopis and Ozzy. It would be too easy, and too expected. I mean, perhaps it may lead to that kind of thing one day. But, for now, I like the idea of it taking this weird, adversarial "professional partner"-type path with these two. She's the main one that can go into these brutal fight situations, partnered-up with him, and he knows that she is just as "invulnerable" in her own way. He doesn't have to worry about watching out for her, or protecting her in any situation.

It just seemed that while she may be intimidating to everyone (maybe even Ozzy himself), Baxter almost seems more than comfortable for them to give each other shit, due to the fact that he KNOWS he will never get into her pants. It's just not like that between them.

And, after seeing Chewy's remark, I reread the scene with that in mind, and it does come off like that. So, that's just bad writing on my part. I will attempt to clarify their relationship in the future....

Oh, and CJ? I'll take that bet....

However, I have to ask, what brought on that idea?

Sallah sings that song in the movie. It's the only part of the song I know, actually.

Good interpretation, Pro. Ozzy provides Lykopis a much-needed punching bag. Who knows, after two thousand years, she probably knows how to box well. Hahaha...

Besides, I have just introduced a third-tier character. I am quite enjoying it.

Oooooooh! Gotcha. Okay, sorry. That didn't even hit me. I was just trying to think of the strangest and most un-Ozzy song I could think for him to be 'forced' to sing. HMS Pinafore was the furthest I could get from Ozzy's everyman.

And I still take your bet.

Absolutely. And, I plan for Ozzy to give as good as he gets...just in a different fashion. Lykopis is easy to needle, if you know how to play off her 'straight-man'/woman qualities. I envision these two being VE's perfect offensive/defensive first-strike field duo, with Drake and Adem on tactical, Icarus as aerial support (natch!), and Gaunt being the final powerhouse line of defense. That's just my take, you know.

Gaunt is more of a covert, "take 'em out when they're not looking" type. Practical. Calculated.

Agreed.

I guess I was thinking overall power-wise. Overall, Gaunt is our most powerful member. But, he is definitely a cloak/dagger stealth character.

If we could schedule it before 10am every night, I could chat. But, my job demands a five am rise. Can't do that and chat into the wee hours, except for weekends.

Besides, I doubt you'll miss the paragraphs-to-sentences ratio that always happens when I get into a chat....

Goonight....

Thanks. I plan to come back to him doing various things throughout the story, and Walrus and I have something in mind for later on.

I'm digging it all so far. Great job.

Tommy Foxe, eh? I like! Can't wait to see how he fits into the mix.

Now, let me ask....can Foxe morph to look like other people, I assume?

Also, just so you know, as Vanguard is set up like a business, it will probably take one of the Vanguardians to bring him to the attention of Doctor Paragon, to get him a job offer. Just be patient, and enjoy intermixing your character into the story, and I'll take care of the "interview" part for your character at the end. That way, he can be on probationary-newbie status for the next mission they are assigned.

It's all politics, my dear Monkey...

To answer your question, yes, Tommy can morph into other people. In factm theoretically speaking it should be easier as he already has the right biosystems and all that (unless he's changing into a woman, but hey, we're not all geniuses). And I'd kinda figured that he'd need a job offer from Paragon to join up, what with the business element an' all

Posted to Oktoberfest. Next post should see Tommy get entangled with Vanguard team. Oh, and for future reference, I've been using Robert Downey Jr as a visual reference point when writing, just in case anyone was interested.

Great stuff, everyone.

Glad to see Doc back. Nice set-up, too. I'll throw a scene out tomorrow concerning all the gambling and hijinks. Although, I have to say, Adem was more 'scientific' than even I could make him....

Monkey, nice lead-in. I plan on picking up that scene if no one else gets to it first. I like the Robert Downey Jr. visual, as well. Good stuff.

CJ, that last post was art. If nothing else, I absolutely adore Lykopis' speech patterns. I'll have to invest some time in getting a hang for such an eccentric way of speaking.

Chewy, you silly bastard. Is Icky's entire Oktoberfest experience going to involve getting his ass kicked all day?

With Lykopis, just don't use contractions. And for some reason, I just think of Eva Gabor. I have no idea why.

Thanks. The whole Robert Downey Jr. visual came from the fairly obvious fact that Tommy is a recovering drug addict, and so is he, so it seemed kinda obvious.

Posted again to the story. First attempt to write one of the established characters so it's a little patchy, but I wouldn't say it's too bad

Nice pics in the Files, Grimm. With almost all of them, it feels like the opening credits to a TV series (y'know, where the image comes up with the actors name underneath it?). Brute Force's and Lady Lykopis's are probably the best, followed by Tommy's, Drake's and Adem's. The others are good too, of course, but those are particularly good

Brute Force's actually came from Chewy. A good suggestion, although I'm not fully happy with the pic. Lykopis' I'm extremely proud of, because I had to work really hard to find a site with the pic I wanted that would link.

Overall, I'm happy with most of them, with maybe one or two that I'd like to redo. Got a few good ones for the old members already lined up. Tommy's I really did off the cuff, but it seemed to fit. The Downey Jr. reference was a good visual choice.

Quick question: Where did Tommy Foxe get the briefcase full of money to fool the "gangsters" with?

SMM: I liked your intro of Tommy, for sure. It established why Vanguard would need him, and the use he can be. However, I warn you of the prime danger every new (and old) writer has to watch out for in a group-writing environment: Rule #1.

Rule #1 of Group Writing is simply this:

-At no time should a writer create and end a conflict within one post, at the expense of other characters, or just to promote his/her character into a spotlight.

This is in no way a criticism of your post. It was an intro-post, and it had to be done that way. And, I never mind other characters upstaging Ozzy in any way, except for the areas that make him unique: boxing and invulnerability. It's just, as you are new, don't fall into the trap of having to "prove" your character. Allow him to excel at what he is best at (mimicry, impersonations, and shapeshifting), while allowing others their own strengths and weaknesses. This will fortify your character as a solid piece of the overall structure of the group/team.

Also, beware Rule #2 of Group Writing, as it will get you into hot water with the other writers.

Rule #2 : if a writer begins a subplot that expressly involves a specific group of characters, never end or curtail their subplot if it is not your own, and/or, you are not involved in any way.

Doc had obviously set up an Ozzy/Adem gambling subplot, to be explored. Tommy inadvertently ended/altered that subplot. Again, this was your intro, so it does not count, nor should it. I'm simply trying to point out the pitfalls to working with an ensemble of writers.

This having been said, welcome to the writing. I can't wait to see how Tommy Foxe evolves within this group...

Thanks for the advice, Pro. It's always good to learn these things, so rest assured I'll do my best to keep to those rules (or guidelines, or whatever they are). Gotta admit, though, I'm slightly concerned by the absence of any kind of real plot. It's kinda difficult to post to the story when I'm not sure what's supposed to be happening. Of course, if there's not supposed to be a full plot then I'll carry on knocking off posts like this. Which reminds me, are you allowed to post to the story twice in a row, as I've got a couple of ideas for introducing Tommy to the rest of the team, but I posted last so I'm not sure if that's allowed.

Thanks for taking my suggestions into consideration, Spam (which will be your new nickname from now on, as I cannot be bothered to write out Spandex-Monkey Man everytime... ).

As for posting twice in a row, there is no definite rule or guideline concerning it. It's more etiquette, and/or, a judgement call. If you think making two posts would be dominating the story, or leading it in some way away from what others have planned, then, no, you would not want to do it. If the story is lagging for more than three or four days with no one posting, and you have something that would benefit the group, then, it's your judgement call.

As for a plot for this story, no, there is not one. We made the conscious decision that there would not be a plot for this one, as it would allow for all of our characters to get to know each other better, and give room for a fleshing-out characterization that the normal plot-driven stories do not allow.

My suggestion to you (and that is all it is, a suggestion) is to be patient, and allow the rest of us to come in and write our own characters meeting Tommy. This would give everyone room to finish their own little mini-plot-moments that they are currently entangled in (i.e. Gaunt's mediations, Icarus' running, Lykopis' brawl, etc.), and also allow them to take their first shot at writing Tommy. If nothing else, I've always found it helps to wait and see how the other writers write their first encounter with a new character, as it helps give an indication of how they would prefer the interaction between the new character and their established one to proceed.

In other words, let the others take a shot at having their characters be introduced to Tommy. It will help both sides adjust to a comfortable level of acceptance of this new factor within the group...

How many would be opposed to having the next story start with VE already in the field? Or would you appreciate Paragon to give a rundown of the mission and have a few posts of character prep? Just curious...

I kind of like the idea of an intro, just because it allows for a little but of character development outside of the mission, you know? Just my thought.

Of course, there's only really one member of VE living in the complex right now, you know.....who better to be the culprit? Besides, I'm sure someone wants revenge for getting beaten senslessly with a brass lamp....
