The switch to Baxter was probably the singlemost worst thing DC has ever done. Titans and Legion were selling massive numbers by today's standards, and the rocket scientists at DC decided to take them off the shelves of newsstands and make them more expensive because they thought they'd have a loyal following regardless.
...

Yeah I remember waiting for LSH #1 to show up & by the time I was able to find a comic shop they were sold out. I didn't see another issue till #4. Being a Legion nut I stuck with it & eventually found back issues but it broke the monthly fix for me.

The Baxter conversion in in 1984 was never something I saw as a big deal THEN (hell, I was only 19). Where I went to college, we had a direct-sales retailer, so getting issues was never a problem.

I just wish he'd stop talking about his "massive stack".

A stackless Llance, of course.

Llance Bower began training in dance and theatre when he was a child. Involved in over one hundred productions by the age of twenty-one, his strong background in the arts has become a unique asset in design and creative consulting.

Llance has always been known for his creativity and ability to "create on the fly." After planning special events for Opera Pacific and The Old Globe Theatre, the Globe created the position of Graphics/Creative Manager for him.

The last Globe Gala Llance planned was hailed as “One of the best Galas this town has ever seen” by Decor and Style Magazine. His graphic work has been selected for national advertising campaigns, and was even picked-up for P.R. use in the Broadway production of The Full Monty.

Clearly a candidate for the Legion of Superheroes.

New interview with Barry Kitson about this book. I read two lines and got bored, but I'm posting the link because I think the sketches are amazing. I really like the way Kitson's style has improved since his days in Adventures.

The first issue was good. Kitson is one of my favorite artists & it shows that he's really into this. The costumes look great & things are set up nicely. I didn't care for the human shield element at the end of the book. Obviously these kids might be learning some hard lessons.

Actually, MEM, that was one of my favorite aspects of the new LSH. Star Boy summed it up: "They're not here for us... We're here for THEM."

Star Boy was a highlight in an all-around great issue. He seems to be trying so hard to do the right thing, and things blow up in his face... literally, apparently.

The new "slogan" is cute, but could get tiresome if overdone.

Barry's work is beautiful here. I had the chance to look through his finished pages in Dallas last month-- indeed, I'm in the process of buying one from him -- and it's easy to see he's putting alot of heart into this project.

I was pretty convinced I was going to enjoy this relaunch after talking with Mark, Barry and Steve W in Dallas; I'm just surprised how MUCH I'm loving it. Can't wait for issue 2.

Yeah, looking at the general response on Legion World I'm the odd man out. I like Star Boy's line but I still see a bunch of dead kids around the clubhouse at some point in the future. (puts me in the grandpa category!) I like pretty much everything else. The costumes are good with some being really good.

One further quibble, the guys tend to all have the same hair style & color.

And it would have been nice to see Bouncing Boy & Matter-eater Lad in this new Legion. Some updating could be done to make these characters work.
