i teach 5th and 6th grade science. I used to teach 2nd and 4th grades. I loved both way more than the current teaching job im doing. they both had their good and bad sides. im a lot more relaxed doing the departmental but its boring. when i was self contained i got to teach about all types of different things and introduce my kids to new ideas without a time limit. now my schedule has no room to go one minute over time!
its people like you that revive my faith in humanity, after the disgudsting displays of hatred and intolerence of those like princespenissa and her ilk! bless you difficultkind, bless you.....
Whatever bsams.......I'm NOT racist DI mean come on-my parents were missionaries for the Southern Baptists for years! And Criswell married my parents and dedicated my sister and I when we were kids and everything...the most conservative Christian preacher that ever lived.
Anyways, Yeah I really woulda liked to have taught in public but that'll happen once I take the Excet and pass it which is what I realllyy wanna do so here's hopin anyways! I understand the lesson plans thing......I only have thirty minutes a class which isn't much time at all so its all gotta be planned out well in advance!
i teach in catholic school cuz im not certified yet either. im going to school in january to start the process. 30 mins is pretty short. mine are 50 and thats too long i thing 35-40 is ideal. i was in a schoolonce where that was the set up.
hopefully next year they'll let me move down to 4th grade again!
PS Thanks BSAMS its really hard and we're so under paid and walked all over by parents who think we're babysitters and have to do what they say. Parents honsetly forget that my job is work!
THats so cool DK! I found out today the math teacher quit. So now I"ll teach English in the mornings and six classes of math/science in the afternoon. Yeahs.....there are just SOOO many lesson plans to go over and everything, wow!
you'll have a blast. i was scared like the first 2 weeks then i got into the flow of things. i wasnt an education major in college i was a social work major. but i always wanted to try teaching and i havent given it up. without sounding all dedicated and wimpy... i know this is my calling and what im supposed to do. not many people love their jobs and love what they do! I am one of the few lucky ones!
Yeah it'll be fun....just lotsa planning! Chemistry and PreCal are going to be the hardest for me to communicate well anyways. Not to mention me grading English papers...I've done equations for three years and written two papers the last five years :P
It definately beats sitting in front of a computer thoughs for fourty hours a week in an office cube :P
well i wish ya the best of luck! today was our christmas party / grab bag and i totally stole the gift from the teacher everybody hates!! It was awesome!!! We play that stupid bump game where you can steal the gift 3 times before it cant be taken . She had a barnes and noble gift card and i needed it to get kids books. i took it from her twice!! Everybody cheered me on! Now i have to watch out for the tires on my car!!!
I TEACH USELESS SHITBAGS TO BE MARINES! THEN I GET SHOT HALFWAY THROUGH THE MOVIE!
If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training ... you will be a weapon, you will be a minister of death, praying for war. But until that day you are pukes! You're the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human fucking beings! You are nothing but unorganized grabasstic pieces of amphibian shit!
Because I am hard, you will not like me. But the more you hate me, the more you will learn. I am hard, but I am fair!
I had to bring this one back cuz my first day teaching was yesterday!!!First of all I was running kinda late today(stopped for Starbuck's) mostly cuz my sister had to STOP and get gas. So I walk into class and everybody's waiting for me (oh the joys :P). Anyways they all seemed really thrilled about their research papers (tenth graders) and tomorrow we head across the street to the library!.
Then the eighth graders showed up (last class in the mornings) and they were all hyped to have me. The boys were like, "Dude, you were our substitute!!!!!!" Everybody seemed thrilled. I told this one kid, Jas, that I thought he looked cool snackin away while he was taking an Algebra I test. He smiled and goes, "I sure bombed that one." LOL, SO FUNNY!!!!!! Anyways, then they were like, "So do we get to do anything fun today??" So we chatted about Christmas and New Years. They really wanna do short stories and poetry so I'll see what I can do there grade wise (bright groupa kids!).
Then I had lunch for an hour *sorta, kinda*. Several teachers dropped by hinting they wanted my overhead machine (tough luck.....math gets priority bwahaha ;P). Anyways by the time I reviewed PreCal, Alg II, Pre-Algebra, and Chemistry I only had ten minutes left so on the way to grab some water I bump into the ever so cool, Mr. Rainey who chatted with me bout how my day went. Totally awesome guy...even gave me some short stories I can go over with my eighth graders! By the time that was over it was time for PreCal to start.
I don't know WHAT the teacher's been doing with them but several of the kids were clueless about IDENTITIES!!!!! Like 1*a=a only insteada that you have trig functions i.e. sinx^2+cosx^2=1, etc. The rest of the section is just about simplifying equations using the identities. I have a feeling mosta tomorrow's class is gonna be going over homework. Chemistry went pretty cool! My mom brought home my science lab book so I have some sweet experiments for them and for my Life Science class (all seventh grade girls which is fun .
The absolute best, math enabled class??? Pre-Algebra...I explained functions which is basically the cornerstone of mathematics and they all GOT IT!!!!!! So awesome...great group of workers. Algebra II class was next and it went by alright...took FOREVER to explain some problems though!!!! I'll probably have to clear up some stuff homework wise tomorrow.
Anyways the AWESOMEST part of the whole day was the sign they hung on the outside of the classroom which said, "Ms. Arp". YEAH!!!!!!! Freakin great man...having my name by the door *YEAH!*. I even tutored a kiddo after school that has a POWELL Flute...a POWELL! I'd trade my arm for that thing man......those things are totally awesome! I helped him out with his psycho, Bio class. The article kept stressin people DYING from being antibiotic resistant..absolutely hilarious :P I'm just glad I didn't have to take that AP class.
So today's been the bestest day EVER! I'm off to enjoy a nice, hot bath, swipe the keys to the car tomorrow, and review some ALG II (graphing parabolas..its been a week since I reviewed it last :P). Ya'll have an awesome day!!!!!!!!!!
Some days urg makes me proud to be his friend. Then there are the days that he steals my beer and fucks my woman. Somedays he gets that backwards.-Lothar
"Those were good days. Sitting around the campfires, eating dinosaur meat, and clubbing our wimmens in the head. I dream of those days sometimes. When Urg would make speeches and lead us to victory over the neighboring tribes. Good days, man. Good days." -Grimm
