Actually it seems fitting. Palpatine's been after Anakin and finally gets him. He then set his sites on Luke, who refused to go to the Darkside.
But I don't see this as a cheap copy of Jedi, I see it as the begining, and that scene in Jedi as the entire thing coming full circle, complete with Anakin's redemption.
Exactly, I think they're making a very clear parallel to the first movies. Like the ending of Phantom Menace was a lot like Star Wars and the end of Clones was a lot like Empire. Maybe the point is that Luke followed a path similar to his father only he controlled his darker feelings and when it came down to it was able to resist Palpatine.
