Seriously, you seem to have me confused with someone else. When have I ever derided the Silver Age? The Silver Age of comics is one of my favourite era's. I absolutely go apeshit with pleasure when I buy a classic silver age book on e-Bay.
What i'm saying is that for the sake of a clean break and a neater continuity, I think one needs to at some point in time, just walk away from all those stories and history that we can't seem to let go of every time DC claims to be doing just that. DC's already done it once before with ........The Silver Age!
After the Crisis, when the opportunity was right for a rebirth, all we got was the big 3 rebooted complete with excessively restrictive rules in Superman's case while the rest of the DCU for all intents and purposes was the same pre-Crisis DCU.
When the Silver age came about, did Alan Scott's continuity influence Hal Jordan's? Did Al Pratt figure into Ray Palmer's experiments? Did Carter Hall come back as a Thanagarian cop? No. Because Gardner Fox and Julie Schwartz had the luxury of not having to deal with a fanbase that coldn't let go of old ideas and stories in order to create new ones.
That doesn't mean I don't like the Silver Age. It means that i'm not obsessively attached to it that I need to drag it along with me into the modern age.
And it doesn't mean that in writing a new continuity we can't use the same themes and characters. Which was DC's big mistake with Superman's post-Crisis reboot.
I don't mind having 2 imprints a la Ultimate books. What I mind is having an imprint that is nothing more than a thinly veiled "Legends of.." title that'll undoubtedly bleed right back into the so-called 'Modern Age' Original Universe continuity. Then what's the point?
I'll buy these books, mind you. One can always hope that they're more subversive than they're letting on. I certainly had high hopes for Birthright. Now if we can get more new fans than angry naysaying old ones aboard like the Ultimate books did, then we'll be OK. We'll have a new universe. One that starts with a modern Superman, not the fucking old Crismson Avenger to appease JSA fans and their worries about their Golden Age stories not being relevant to the DCU circa 2004.
And hey, if no new Universe comes about from it, i'm sure Geoff John's will be there to explain how these new stories tie into All Star Comics # 42.

I don't think that's possible, since it seems the All Starts universe will be different from the normal DCU in many ways. For example, Morrison mentioned things like Kandor and Bizarro world, that don't exist in the normal DCU.

Um, hate to be a party-pooper here, but Kandor does exist in the mainstream DCU. It's where the big guy with the ram's horns (Scourge?) came from.
