(1-4-05)Another update, this time prompted by the NFL's official announcement from yesterday confirming the divisional playoff schedules.

AFC First Round, Jets vs. Chargers--if you thought Chad Pennington was testy at postgame press conferences before, wait till you see what happens after San Diego is finished tearing him apart like wet paper.
Final score: Chargers 41, Jets 6.

AFC First Round game, Colts vs. Broncos--every NFL playoff has its upset story, and this year's will be written at Mile High Stadium. Peyton Manning may have thrown 49 passes this year, but he'll be best remembered for one...the one the Denver defense intercepts and runs all the way back to the Indy endzone for the winning TD in overtime.
Final score: Broncos 44, Colts 38 in OT.

NFC First round game, Packers vs. Vikings--look for Green Bay to ride a wave of emotion in the wake of Reggie White's passing and run over their divisional archrivals like a herd of elephants.Randy Moss will be gone before the end of the first quarter.Final score: Packers 47, Vikings 3.

NFC First Round game, Seahawks vs. Rams--Seattle is about to get sweet revenge for the humiliation St. Louis inflicted on them twice during the regular season. The newly crowned NFC West division champions will wipe away the last traces of what used to be the Greatest Show on Turf.
Final score: Seahawks 27, Rams 13.

Projected second round matchups, AFC: Steelers vs. Broncos and Patriots vs. Chargers.
Projected second round matchups, NFC: Eagles vs. Seahawks and Packers vs. Falcons.

I can't really argue with the picks. I'm not quite ready to make any predictions of my own yet, considering the season isn't over and the playoff picture is still quite unclear. I'm not really sure the Seahawks or Broncos will even make it, as inconsistent as they've been.

I'll just say that, as of right now, my Super Bowl hope is Colts/Falcons, but I have a feeling it will end up being a predictable Pats/Eagles matchup.

The Seahawks have already clinched a berth, and close out against Atlanta who's most likely without Vick this weekend. If Seattle wins, they get the division. Assuming they get the Vikings in the opening round, they'll advance IMO.

I don't see the Eagles going to the Super Bowl without T.O. He's too integral to their offense. But I wouldn't be surprised if they make it. Patriots, sh'yeah. They're going to the show.

I wanna see the Chargers go against the Panthers for the Super Bowl, with Beyonce as the halftime show.

You're right about that, my bad. Amazing how bad the NFC West is.

Actually, Jim Mora is saying now that he wants to play Vick and most of his other starters against Seattle, because he doesn't want to "end the season with a losing streak".

I don't know what Seattle's done to make you that confident. They lost to the Vikings in Week 14.

The Vikings are quite the schizophrenic franchise(perhaps even moreso than Seattle), but on a talent basis they rival any team in the NFC, if not the entire league. They're dangerous.

Obviously Owens is a huge part of that offense. I just don't see anyone else in the NFC that I'd feel even remotely comfortable betting on. Green Bay wouldn't even be in the playoffs if they were in the AFC. Atlanta doesn't really scare me. Seattle certainly doesn't.

I might consider Carolina a threat if they get in, because their defense is still top notch(and because they play like they actually give a damn, unlike a lot of other teams in the NFC), but I don't see their running game being as strong with Nate Goings as it was last year with Stephen Davis and DeShaun Foster.

I dunno, I think Philadelphia might just get in by default.

The only projection I'm willing to make now is that Philly's run to the Super Bowl comes up short, yet again.

They won't have T.O. to get there, and they haven't gotten there without T.O. in the past. No reason to think they will get there, again, without him. They seem to have no playmakers other than McNabb.

Plus, I think Andy Reid's "play it safe" mode going into the playoffs won't help the team. It'll have the whole team worried. Though it might benefit the Bengals this weekend.

And to think he said "no" when the Univ. of Washington asked permission to interview him for their head coaching vacancy.

Actually, the Seahawks lost to the Jets in week 14. They defeated the Vikings in week 13 27-23. Randy Moss was intercepted in the closing minutes to seal the victory for Seattle. Why they called a play like that is beyond me.

The NFC completely sucks right now. It's like no one wants the brass ring. Philly does, but look at them last year without T.O. The NFC representative in the Super Bowl will depend on who gets the ideal matchup in the playoffs.

I'll crap my pants if the Seahawks go.

It's that cyclical nature of sports. In the 70s, the Cowboys were the only NFC team to win the Super Bowl. In the 80s, the Raiders were the only AFC team to win the Super Bowl. In the 90s it was still mostly NFC, but the tied is turning back since the Broncos back-to-back wins in 97 and 98.

This is just a really down year for the NFC.

Wow, do I even exist anymore? I can't even read damn boxscores correctly, good grief. I remember that play, didn't remember it was against Seattle.

If I'm reading this right, it was week 14, though. That completely makes me feel better.....

I guess I get to shoot ya down again. Here's the schedule for the Seahawks.

Here's also a link to possible playoff scenarios. All be moot after tommorrow.

Perhaps you're forgetting that there are 17 weeks in the season, with every team having 1 bye week.

It was the 13th game, but the 14th week. Notice the gap between game 3 and 4(played on September 26th and Ocotober 10th, respectively).

Anyway, if Seattle and Minnesota do hook up in the playoffs, I'd be inclined to go with the Vikings. Even if Matt Hasselback wants the ball, and is going to score.

Damn bye weeks. Why the hell millionaires who play football for half a year need a bye week is beyond me.

The Seahawks open against the team that swept them in the season. Great. Just great.

Although Mike Vrabel, former Buckeye, is on that team, too, I'm with you. I'm more than happy to see New England lose.

I can't stand Tom Brady. Infact, I hate him. I think all the "he's so underrated" talk is bullshit. If anything, he's overrated, just like Joe Namath(another east coast QB) was. Any QB that is constantly compared to Joe Montana cannot be underrated.

Rodney Harrison(now there's a guy you could make a case for being underrated) was the only reason I would have rooted for the Pats last year. He's got his ring now, so all bets are off.

At least ya got there.

Yes, but that was twenty friggin' years ago! I was too young to engage in the drunken festivities that ensued!! And do you think there was some big party when Smarty Jones won the Kentucky Derby? Hell no! I want my drunken Superbowl victory orgy, by gum!
