AFC Second Round,Patriots vs. Jets--Gang Green just barely managed to squeak past San Diego;their chances of beating the defending Super Bowl champion on its own home turf are practically zilch.
Final Score:Patriots 38,Jets 17

AFC Second Round,Steelers vs. Colts--Next Sunday,Heinz Field will be Peyton's Place.
Final Score:Colts 28,Steelers 19

NFC Second Round,Packers vs. Falcons--One quarterback in the final stages of a great career, the other still in the first chapter of one. This should be an interesting game.
Final Score:Packers 31,Falcons 27

NFC Second Round,Rams vs. Eagles--This is where Donovan McNabb and company get even with St.Louis for the humiliation of losing the 2001 NFC title game.
Final Score:Eagles 45,Rams 14

Projected conference championships:Patriots vs. Colts,Eagles vs. Packers

I always knew you were silly, because halfway through this playoff weekend and you couldn't even get next week's playoff teams correct. You should focus on your sneaky bunny luvin and leave football to the real men.

I finished 2-2.

I cannot recall a playoff weekend wherein 3 home teams lost.

Neither can I. Now then, my hastily revised divisional playoff projection for next week:
AFC Second Round, Patriots vs. Colts--for those of you who've forgotten what happens when you put Peyton Manning and the New England defense together in Gillette Stadium, Bill Belichick will be only too happy to furnish a reminder.
Final score:Patriots 38, Colts 20.
AFC Second Round, Steelers vs. Jets--somehow, I have a feeling Chad Pennington's post-game demeanor will be considerably more cheerful than it was after his game against the Seahawks.
Final score:Jets 31, Steelers 30

NFC Second Round, Rams vs. Falcons--odds are Atlanta will emerge from this game (pardon the pun) Vick-torious.
Final score:Falcons 23, Rams 10.
NFC Second Round, Eagles vs. Vikings--once again, Randy Moss will be leaving the game early....in an ambulance.
Final score:Eagles 41, Vikings 9.

Projected Conference championship matchups:Patriots vs. Jets, Eagles vs. Falcons

This year, however, is a different year.

No Richard Seymour. No Ty Law (the guy who picked off Manning 3x in last year's AFC title game).

A better Manning. He now has far more weapons (Harrison, Stokely, Clark, Wayne, James, Mungro). And the Colts D is better, too.

The Colts can win this game, even in Foxboro.

There's one small but important detail you're overlooking:the Pats have had a week off to rest and to prepare for whatever assault Peyton Manning might try to throw in their face. Indy, on the other hand, is coming off two games in a row against Denver and will be arriving at Foxboro with little if any gas left in its tank. Add to that the fact that the game will be played in very cold weather--which usually favors the Patriots--and you're looking at the Colts' seventh straight defeat by New England since Peyton Manning took over as starting quarterback.
And incidentally,Jim,I think you and everybody else betting on the Colts are greatly underestimating the Pats' ability to compensate for problems with their defensive line;I'm inclined to think that come next Sunday, Earthwind Moreland will be the latest New England defensive player to victimize Peyton.

Surely you can't mean to imply that the Colts games with Denver were anything remotely competitive. Merely a warm-up. Hell, more like a scrimmage in that first half.

I'm not saying the Colts beat the Pats. I'm saying it will be a game and the Colts can very well walk out of Gilette with the W.

I don't bet on games, period.

I think you're also underestimating the Colts. The Colts have all their weapons available coming in to this game. The Patriots do not.

Peter King had this to say, yesterday, on si.com

This is the best Indy team the Patriots have faced, the Colts have been turnover machines in their previous two meetings in Foxboro, and the Patriots are playing without both starting corners. This will be the toughest Colt-Pat match for New England.

Maybe. Maybe not. You've already had the Sox this year and the Patriots last year.

the colts will win this weekend for two reasons:

(1) their offense is amazing
(2) they have the unified hopes and dreams of every nfl fan in the history of the universe. i don't think i know any pats fans anymore.

colts: 35, pats: 20

ditka: 56, tornado: 21

as for jets vs. steelers...

i dunno. imma keep hope alive.

right now, chad is sick. abraham is still questionable. chrebet is 80%. moss is 80%. perhaps momentum from last week can help push them forward.

if an abraham-powered defense can break through to roethlesshausenburgerstein early in the game, they could do the unthinkable and limit the steelers offensive might.

gotta go green. 27-20

The Colts offense is amazing all right--amazingly bad at adjusting to cold weather. On Peyton Manning's watch they've made an art form of self-destructing when the mercury drops below 40.Heck,they've been known to stumble a few times when it drops below 50.

The following projections are being posted pending results of tonight's AFC divisional playoff game.

AFC Championship Game,Patriots vs. Steelers--Bill Cowher's crew won't have much gas left in the tank after last Saturday's nail-biter vs. the Jets, and you can count on New England to exploit that to the fullest.
Final Score:Patriots 23,Steelers 17 in overtime

NFC Championship Game,Eagles vs. Falcons--If I were Andy Reid,I'd have an updated resume handy this weekend.
Final Score:Falcons 31,Eagles 16

Projected Super Bowl Matchup:Patriots vs. Falcons

But are you going on record with these predictions, or are these your unofficial predictions?

Yeah, MisterJLA, I'm definitely going on record--next Sunday, the Pats will get revenge on the Steelers for snapping their 21-game win streak and the Falcons will officially end Andy Reid's coaching career. Come Superbowl Sunday, it's going to be the Hub against the Dirty South for the Lombardi trophy.

Andy Reid may very well lose next week, but by no means does that end his coaching career. You telling me the 49ers wouldn't want him? The Browns? Shit, the Browns would love to be back at a point of losing 3 straight conference title games.

I pick the Falcons over the Eagles.

Patriots over Steelers.

It's ironic, but of the current head coaches in the NFL, Cowher and Reid have to have the worst records in Conference Title Games.

Cowher's 1-3 coming into this weekend.
Reid's 0-3.

The Eagles and Steelers both need to establish leads early. This will force the Pats to abandon their running game and the Falcons to abandon theirs. The Eagles would then be able to operate without the pressure of "three straight conference title losses" albatrossing them and would allow the Steelers to work their running game on the Pats late.

But I don't see it happening.

Falcons at Eagles
Patriots at Steelers

Sorry to Philly fans, but I see no way the Eagles defeat the Patriots in 13 days.

Bellichick et al have over a week to analyze, break down, and game plan the Eagles with or without T.O.

It may be different next year once the Patriots lose a lot of their staff (all talk is that the Browns are waiting to name Crennel the minute they're allowed to...I can imagine Romeo will be wearing a Browns t shirt on the dais after the Pats win in 13 days and Weiss is already in South Bend), but that's then. Right now, the Patriots win by at least 10.
