I haven't actually read the issue, I just guessed from what I've read about the other issues that some sort of evil thing in the rings took over Hal and made him go bad (and now it's doing the same with the others), and it seems I was right. I predict that by the end Hal will say "I'm still guilty... guilty for not being able to overcome it and fight the feelings of rage and blah blah blah". And then someone, possibly John Stewart, will say "No, Hal, the same would have happened to any of us, even if you don't believe it you're a real hero because you blah blah blah" END.
This makes me wish my previous doppleganger/evil twim/anti-matter version/flawed clone/shape shifter Hal Jordan theory was right..

I just think about the pre-crisis Hal returning, just like the Silver Age Superboy and Earth 1 Superman. I know we didn't see Hal go with them but I just didn't like what they did with Hal in the Emerald Dawn mini. I was rereading some old Waid Flash and JLE, Hal came across as some out of touch lame joke telling....joke! That's not the Dude I grew up with!

Basically, cuz, like Dave said, I would have preferred anything over an entirely new plot device. I never like it when they create something new to explain something away, especially when there are so many reasonable answers that exist in continuity. Speaking of which, personally, I was betting (and hoping) Parallax would be related to The Red discussed in The Mosaic. In fact, Stewart's personality was VERY Parallax like when "infected". Anywho, Gerard Jones used this idea of an impurity in the ring taking over a GL's mind a little while BEFORE Hal Jordan died, which would have given it more credibility in my mind. There would have been a few snafoos in the plot, but The Red would have given him a great way to bring back Sinestro if he'd resolved those snafoos properly, since The Red took the form of Sinestro in Stewart's mind then escaped into space, never to be heard of again (as far as I know).
When I'd heard rumors that an out had been written into Hal Jordan's fall and rumors that an impurity in the ring was to blame, it just seemed that this was the route Johns was going to take.

hardly, it seems like Johns is once again fixing up a mess he had no hand in making as best as he can. sure his solution isn't perfect but it works and doesn't make things any worse. that and it's a pretty good read too. what i think is nice is that he's following up on something that was said in Morrison's JLA about Kyle's fear being an asset as it's Kyle's fear is allowing him to resist Parallax.
