Bosworth and Spacey Confirmed for Superman
The Hollywood Reporter, Variety
January 6, 2005
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Kate Bosworth is in talks to play Lois Lane, and Kevin Spacey is set to play the superhero's nemesis Lex Luthor in Bryan Singer's Superman for Warner Bros. Pictures.
The comic book movie would reunite the two actors, who currently appear in Spacey's "Beyond the Sea" as Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin.
The casting of Lane was a long process that ultimately rested on a chemistry test between the actress and Brandon Routh, who is playing Superman, says the trade. Bosworth reportedly beat out the likes of Claire Danes, Linda Cardellini, and Michelle Monaghan.
Spacey, who is in rehearsals for "National Anthems" at the Old Vic, will do a limited run of "The Philadelphia Story" at the theater before moving to the Superman movie, which has a March 3 start date at Fox Studios Sydney.
Singer also told Variety that he and his writers chose a track that falls somewhere between the original film and the successful series Smallville.
"It's a little like 'X-Men,' where the mutants existed when the movie began," Singer said. "It's not an origin story; I didn't want to remake what Richard Donner did so well in the original, and didn't want to tread on the great work they're doing on 'Smallville.' He's already part of the culture; he has left the planet. This is the story of his return."

I disagree.....although I think Spacey is an incredible actor.......I also feel that he can't disguise his homosexuality no matter how hard he tries. I have nothing against gays whatsoever......but a Lex Luthor type should be manly, ruthless and tyranous.......not bitchy or nagging.

Not movies starring Kevin Spacey, but Mxy's actually gone to movies with Kevin Spacey.

Yup, he's gay. Singer is a very pro-gay director and has always put them in important roles in his movies.

He's actually said publicly that he's not gay. He's aware that people say he is, but he says it's a common misconception.

And in more news. . . Marsden & Laurie Aboard Singer's Superman The Hollywood Reporter, Variety January 13, 2005
Director Bryan Singer has cast James Marsden, who played Cyclops in Singer's two "X-Men" movies, and Hugh Laurie, who stars in the Singer-executive produced Fox series House, in Warner Bros. Pictures' Superman.
The Hollywood Reporter says Marsden will play Lois Lane's love interest, Richard White. Laurie is in final talks to play Perry White, editor in chief of the Daily Planet. The two characters are related, though the studio declined comment on if they are father and son.
Brandon Routh is set to play Clark Kent/Superman, while Kevin Spacey, who won a supporting actor Oscar for his performance in Singer's The Usual Suspects, is set to play Lex Luthor. Kate Bosworth is in negotiations to play Lois Lane.

Good. James Marsden rocked in X-men and X-men 2.
In you didn't notice, the above statement was pure sarcasm. They could have replaced him with a cardboard cut-out.

I'm not too enthusiastic about some of these casting choices, especially Kate Bosworth as Lois. She's only 21, she looks like a teenager, and she's playing a Lois Lane who is supposed to be 6 years older than she was in Superman II?
Spacey as Luthor is an excellent choice, though, and I'll withold judgment on Brandon Routh until I see the movie.
Also, if Singer wants to bring aboard any more alumni - Gabriel Byrne for Jor-El.
