Ok so it finally downloaded. But it's an MPEG-2(?) file. And, apparently, unreadable on my computer.

I'm gonna be gone for ten minutes. If you have problems, just know that Winamp 5 plays just about everything you in particular are gonna need. If you wanna play OGM/MKV, then get Video Lan. But I'd save that for later.
Alright, winamp 5 is up but it won't play the file. I opened the file in the program and it won't show anything or send me an error report.

When I go to play the file it loads up. It says it's 9:13 minutes or something and everything loads except for the little knob which tracks the progress of the playing of the file (if you know what I'm talking about). So it won't play. When I hit play it does nothing for a second and then returns to highlighting the 'stop' button. I assume this might be a problem in the player, right? I've rebooted my computer a couple of times and it hasn't made anything better. Should I try to download it again?

She needs a codec. Do a google search for "mpeg2 codec for Windows Media" or whatever video playing program you use. I had to do that the other day cause I downloaded a 5GB DVD only to find that, not only can't I burn DVDs, I also can't fucking play them or even play DVD files downloaded into my computer (a.k.a. MPEG2). I ran into a few problems after installing the codec but I can't remember what they are right now.

An updated player should have searched out the codec automatically.
Oh! No, now I remember. Windows Media does tell you that you need a codec... but when you follow the link they tell you they charge for the update. So the codec I got isn't precisely legal.
