Whatever. The fact is, will Batista be over like Austin or Rock or Angle, a flash in the pan like Lesnar, or a guy who seems on the cusp of getting a big push for years, like Billy Gunn or Viscera?

the fact is... none of those are facts.
i dont know if batista will ever reach a stone cold level, but... c'mon, those are pretty lofty goals. i do think, however, that the timing of this current push he's receiving is perfect. he's very over and continues to get bigger pops with every entrance. this is something that the wwe, oddly, recognizes and is capitalizing on.
its a great build with great potential.

Yes, but think of the long term. In the long run, I think Cena would've been the better choice for the Rumble win.
I probably wouldn't be as upset if Triple H hadn't made Cena out to be such a putz.

batista doesnt really seem to have that "it" factor or the personality to go far, but i remeber the time WCW was giving Goldberg his huge push over everyone and thinking the same thing. goldberg still wasn't one of my favorites but he caught on with the majority of the fans and made WCW some money.....

I think what everyone else is saying is that Cena doesn't need a Rumble win to go far. He's already got a fanbase and a lot of momentum. He'll be able to recover after the Rumble and move on without the win for a title shot. Batista, on the other hand, is gaining popularity but needed the Rumble win to give him that extra bit of credibility as a World Champ competitor.

Traditionally Rumble winners have been guys who have already held the heavyweight title so its hardly ever been used to push a new guy up the ladder, but in this case like it or hate it,Batista was the most sensible winner. Cena DOES NOT need that kind of push with the fans,he's already so far over that the Rumble win would not mean that much. Dont forget that back in 2002 Booker T was getting a big push & everyone felt he was gonna & shoulda won the Rumble but Lesnar won. Even though Booker didnt win he still got a title shot at WM that year,so I'd hazard a guess Cena will get the same deal!

I have more respect for a KoR winner than a Rumble winner anyhow.
I think the final KoR match both competitors are pulling triple duty.
Takes alot of endurance and creativity. You really want to have three diffrent matches.

Yes, but did he win? He had the title shot, and was then quickly shunted back down to the midcard.

Which had nothing to do with him winning or losing the Rumble. Booker got the push and was able to take it as far as they let him without needing to when the Royal Rumble, and the fans didn't mind.

Still, I don't agree with the rationale of giving Batista the Rumble win in a effort to give him credibility. I have much the same opinion about World Title wins. Disco Inferno said something like this: "The belt shouldn't bring credibility to the wrestler; the wrestler should bring credibility to the belt." That's a sentiment that I agree with.

By your point of view, the belt means nothing. Because it's who holds it that ONLY matters, which completely destroys the purpose of having a title belt.
It should go both ways. Wrestlers with credibility add more to the belt, while wrestlers who don't have much gain a lot of credibility from winning said belt. Same applies with the rumble win. It was used to give Batista more credibility.
And jesus, Disco Inferno? Why not quote someone with more credibility. Like Lash Leroux.

And how does a wrestler gain credibility? With the fans who know the ins & outs of the business, its down to two things, talent & real achievments, with the general fan (which there are more of) its about achievments in the ring that they see. A royal rumble win will give a wrestler credibilty with the fan base that doesnt care about backstage politics, the fan base that thinks The Rock is the name he was born with, the fan base that doesnt worry about the history of WWE/WWF,the fan base that boo heels despite liking them when they were faces & vice versa. Winning the Rumble gave Batista far more credibility & that push he needed to get him over with the fans, something Cena does not need. Disco Inferno can say what he wants, lets face it,what credibility does he have?

Why? Do you want me to play wingman as you try to score with Doc? The Goose to your Maverick? I think it's safe to say that Doc won't play hard-to-get with you crooning "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to him. Or even "Looks That Kill" (your personal fav, I know). So go get 'im, tiger!

So, no actual comments about the PPV itself?
I've been hiding from these boards because I couldn't get the rumble until yesterday and I really hate watching it for the first time when I know who wins - so you will all be happy to know, I got thru the week without some cunt revealing the outcome! Also, I'm a little behind(thank you, nowhereman) with RAW and Smackiedown - so I really didn't have any idea who was going to win!
First match - Michaels/Edge! Well, the result was correct but boy was this a crap match - I don't know who was to blame, but if you can' t have a good match with Michaels then you not much good!
Casket Match - blah
Angle Vs Show Vs jbl, actually good fun, even though jbl did fuck all and show was wrestling in slow motion - it was worked quite well and of course Angles sneakiness was quite amusing. I'm afraid I still don't rate jbl so him keeping the title and remaining at the forefront of smackdown, didn't do anything for me, I wouldn't have minded Show winning if I didn't have to see jbl on screen any more! And as for their upcoming barbwire match.......same barbwire Sandman used in wcw?
Orson Vs hhh, not bad but hhh beat the shit out of Orson. Like the other title match, it fit in with the story but because I don't like hhh, it didn't do anything for me.
The Rumble - crap. badly paced, not enough highspots and quite boring. Before the Rumble started, with all the recaps of storylines thru the show, it did become apparent that Shatista(R to Nowhereman) was the natural winner(I don't rate the guy at all). As most of you guys say, it made sense with the ongoing storyline, Cena winning - wtf? The next Austin or Rock - wtf? Yeah, if this dudes matches weren't as boring as fuck! To say, Cena or Shatista will be the next Austin or Rock, is a pipe dream at the very best. Cena has a high fanbase but loses them all as soon as his matches start - he needs to work on his matches and work on fucking hard. Shatista - flash in the pan, his cahracter and delivery have been quite good but the guy is a Joey Deacon in the ring - more boring then Cena! Future Rock/Austin - I laugh at you all and try to kill Cecil in the process!
Back to the Rumble, actual match was gay but the positives:
Angle and Michaels Rey Misterio did well I liked how Flair and Shathead(batista) doubleteamed a few people out and then Flair went for Battyboy(batista) - no relation. I also liked Flairs and Eddies encounter - they should have done more of this.
Not much else to commend!
