Or he could just make him his grandson instead. Problem solved, story moves on.

My proposed solution doesn't require him to retcon his post; in any case, i TOTALLY concour with Pro that there is NO need for an explanation at all.

Nor does mine. My point is, don't worry about it, just progress the story.

Heh. I finished all my papers, and I don't have any more Liverstock Disease class.

Oh God, I'm not ready to be a senior...

And I'm not ready to graduate!

In answer to your tongue-in-cheek, possibly rhetorical question, Grimm, I finished one of the many papers I had due this week and just got too lazy to work on another, so I posted instead. Plus, I've been showing some of my stories to a friend of mine, which has made me want to write more. So, hopefully, I'll be able to jump back in once I'm graduated...

Hopefully.

And there's nothing in my fridge so I'm drinking expired beer. I don't know what this has to do with the upcoming Organic final, except to prove that there are lots of things I'd rather be doing than studying Organic...

Chewy, the Vogons would be proud of that last post.

Danny: Wonderful post. Really didn't expect Vic to still be alive by now.

Damn good stuff everyone. I'm kind of surprised that the only person to create a pseudo-original character so far (including myself, natch) is SPAM. Still, I'm digging to see how everyone has been changed by time. And, if it helps to understand how to write Artemis, I was very influenced by Legolas from Lord of the Rings when I created him.

Also, remember...I have no list of who was killed on Earth during the alien invasion, and who went on the "Lost" strikeforce. So, hope that helps when deciding what characters are where, and the like.

AND, one final thought:

I realize I said this is an open concept, and I meant it. But, heavens-to-betsy, I was really hoping we could go this entire story without the ships having "laser beams". Not to say that it wouldn't be expected. But, I guess, in my mind, I had their weapons as being something that may have been created by Earth technology. Like minigun-explosive shells, or, tracking missles. I'll go with whatever everyone uses. But, Trek really ruined me on the space battles using "laser beams". That is my one and only opinionated gripe. Thank you.

And to keep tally (so far)

Initial Crew:

Adem Different (command position)
Link Fox (sub-command position)
Phil (neural systems and comm)
Rob (pilot)
Jym (cyber system and ops)
Drake Foxe ("CAG"...meaning 'top pilot'; the Caliburne is his baby)
Artemis Cross (gunner supreme)
Blackwulf (internal security initiative)
Gaunt (the engine itself)

Picked up (so far):

-Lykopis (She-Wolf)

Other:

-Victor Reilley (no one seems to be aware of his existence, yet)

Hope that keeps things in line for you...

I'm just gonna say the process that gave Vic his powers retarded his aging and move on.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't aware one could have space battles without lasers, actually. Darn you George Lucas. So, instead of thinking of space travel as WWII-style dogfights, would it be better to think of the ships as giant space-bound submarines? More Hunt for Red October and less Battle Over Britian?

Tracking missles I understand. But what are minigun explosion shells?

well, the Clockmen don't use lasers. They and their ships use a variety of chronal based weapons. Retcon beams, retcon bombs, and whatever else somebody can think of based on that theme.

And the only character I've brought in is Blackwulf, and he's just a supporting character. I don't have any intentions of bringing in any of my main characters at this time.

I'm not sure as of right now that I'm going to bring in a character to write in the story. I haven't really been inspired to as of yet. I'll just have fun writing everybody else...

It's funny cause its true... BTW, when you going to add something?

Chewy: Totally understand. I think I was going to write the existing characters for awhile, myself. Still don't plan to add anyone else right now, anyway.

CJ: Sorry if that was confusing. I guess when I'm talking about the weapons and all, I mean I was thinking more primitive weaponry adapted for interstellar battle. When I think about gunfire in space, I don't see laser beams, but more like F16 miniguns. I realize that some of that would be impractical, given the logistics of space, gravity, inertia, and the void. And, again, the only visual thing my mind goes back to is the new Battlestar Galactica series. But, given that I imagine not everyone has seen it, or even likes it, it's not a universally practical visual reference.

In the end, write what you like. If I don't like it, I'll write around it, or use it, either way.

Actually, projectile weapons - mass drivers in most hard sci-fi - are pretty good small-scale weapons in space compared to directed-energy weaponry. They are comparatively tiny, taking up only a fraction of the weight and space laser weapons of equivalent damage potential would (it's only a hundred years hence ). What's more, since it would require a lot more armor to protect against the kinetic energy of a mass driver than it would take to dissipate the photonic energy of a laser beam (again, assuming extensions of existing/theoretical tech), and a bullet can deal equivalent damage drawing on a mere fraction of the energy required to operate a laser, mass drivers would seem to be the more efficient weapons - particularly in the vacuum of space, where there would be no drag to impede the velocity of a projectile, and hence no diminishing of its kinetic energy over distance.

BTW, Euro...just out of curiosity...I named the ship The Eurostar because, A) he was the first metahuman/member of that team's legacy, and, I..uh..thought he would have been dead by now. You know, if not fallen in a blaze of glory in the war, then, of being well over one-hundred years old. Or, was it all a flashback? Just curious...
