Okay, assuming we all go for this, I need you guys to start something right now:

I need a PM from each one of you concerning the desired fate of your characters.

I need to know either "DEATH", "ACTIVE", "WALK AWAY", or, "NOT INCLUDED" for each and every character you have domain over.

"DEATH" means you want that character to be killed.
"ACTIVE" means you want to use that character for the new era (limited to one).
"WALK AWAY" means you want that character to exit the writings in a different form than being killed.
"NOT INCLUDED" means the character shouldn't even show up at all.

This doesn't mean I'll be the one to do it in the story. It just gives me an idea of who I CAN'T touch. No matter the status you choose, let me know explicitly whether you want to handle it in the story, or would rather I do it.

And, really, PMs. Don't just blab it out in the thread. That takes away the fun and surprise for everyone else.

This will give me an idea of who we're playing with, and why. And, I mean, ALL your characters. Everyone from your main one, to your subcharacters/girlfriends/etc.

I will say this, though...I cannot promise a truly superb and meaningful death for every one that you decide to kill, unless you do it yourself. That's the point of this story. In real wars, people are sometimes killed because they lose.

Thanks. I look forward to the PMs.

No, really, I have mixed feelings.

The superpowered yet goofy Hero is a character I love.

Euro is a character I love most. He is off world in his solo title, but I think he could return for his monitor duty.

I have also Whilelm Tell somewhere, so I could end using him. I always liked Green Arrow, I could try to write him like before I tried to write Aquaman and Hawkman.

I really don't know.

Pro and I talked over IM about this earlier today. I just have to say that I'm not going to be involved. I'm just not wanting to do stories involving the Protectors of the Human Race as this looks like it will be. Unlike most people here, I don't have a character on both teams. I've got Adem, and that's it. So I don't feel the same pressure as the rest of you might to contribute to both stories. For me, combining the two teams is not necessary or wanted. But, like I said, I don't have characters on both teams. The best thing for me to do would be to bow out for now. Maybe later I will be interested; but, for now, I'm not. The current proposed direction of the new group as well as the story to bring it there is something I don't feel that I will be able to contribute to at this current time. And I'd rather not spoil or stop it for those who are wanting to do it.

I just want to caution the rest of you. Grimm pointed out that some of you agreed to the proposed rules over a year ago because you felt you had to to keep him, Pro, and me posting in the group when you really weren't supportive of them. Make sure that's not the case now. Be vocal about what you do and don't want and not just let things slide because you don't want to upset someone. I think there was a lot of misunderstanding with the earlier incident. Though those rules seem to, at times, fallen by the wayside, I kept to them with my own writing the best I could. I helped make the rules because I supported them and thought they would help everyone, including me. So be sure that this is something you really want and will support before throwing your vote into the YAY category. Make sure you are all on the same page before moving forward with this. The last thing this group needs is for people to come out and say they didn't like something after the fact. That hasn't worked for us in the past. It won't work in the future.

It tends to put you immediately at a disadvantage and IMO is a sign of true weakness.

I vote Grimm as a field leader and as a master for the stories. His works over VE was flawless. I would also vote for Pro or Danny, but so far Grimm has been more consistent.

Well thanks. I wouldn't say flawless, but there's been some good, fun stuff in VE. I'll miss it.

But leader of the new group? I don't even know right now who I'm going to use. Gaunt's pretty much been a failed experiment and wouldn't want to lead anyway. BF's my preferred choice of character for this and he's no leader (but don't tell him that). Paragon's too powerful (maybe not. I dunno). Grimm. . .Grimm's about eighty percent removed from Vanguard honestly. I could do it. But I don't really have the interest in it. And really, I'd rather just go off and do something else than keep rehashing the same old stuff.

And really, I don't know that I the time or interest in leading right now. I'm at another job than when I started, and my free time isn't what it used to be. And I think it's definitely shown in my posting.

In theory I agree with Pro, then I remember my evil Hal story and have to shut the hell up...

Spamm! Just the guy who should read my last Vanguard: Legends post.

That's right! I brought up a current story in the talk thread! Deal with it.

Spamm: You don't use AIM by an any chance, do you?

That he wouldn't be suited for a leading role I can understand, but why "a failed experiment"?

He is the best new character in Vanguard in years.

It's not, IMO. I guess we are all concerned that the writings would not survive, and Pro's idea seems a good way to put the thing back on track.

If I can make a parallel, we are in a similar situation like four years ago, when the MBL and TOMB had spinoffed TIAMAT and JAMB, and people were writing in four different titles. The WAR was brought up to clear stuff, and even if it didn't worked exactly like planned, it gave us Vanguard. That was a success, I think.

So, all we're waiting to hear from is CJ then?

As for the status of characters, understand one thing:

You can use all of your characters in the "end" story we do. All I need to know is if you consider either of them expendable. If so, then, whether you would want to write their end, or would want me to do it. And, if you don't want them offed, then, I will assume that you will write the one you don't want to use out within that story.

So far, I've gotten status confirmations from:

-Euro
-Phil
-Chewy
-Doc
-Mxy

I don't expect one from you , Spamm, as you only have one character. So, that leaves:

-Grimm
-CJ
-Danny

...that I haven't heard from. Thanks.

Ah, well, thanks. Character wise, I think he's progressed nicely, and people are starting to get the hang of his personality, but power and use wise he's been handled largely counter to what I prefer he be used as. He's not "Gaunt: Man of Action" nor is he VE's deus ex machina transport device (those would be Paragon's subspatial inducers. hello? remember those anyone?).

Maybe it's my fault for not being clear enough in stating how I wanted him used or for being too abstract in his conception. I don't know. But he isn't working right in the stories. So yeah, a failed experiment.

Ah, yes, I understand it now. I think the main problem is that such kind of characters works better, in a group environment, when they are just frequent guest stars. Like the Pahntom Stranger in JLoA or Promethus X in the old MBL.

Sorry for the big delay gents, I was out of town. And I have a tanline. I feel sooooooooooooooooooo much better.

I leave you for four days and look what happens. Seesh. What did you guys do before your token female arrived?

Anyways, it's clear something has to be done, and Pro's taken the first steps.

Pro, I'll IM you what I want done with my characters before this evening. I have to unpack and Dakota misses his mommy.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Chewy. If the majority voted for me, I'd do my best to keep things rational and even, following your example of old. Still, I think there's alot of life left in the old Walrus for leadership. Just saying...

Okay, I've heard from everyone except Grimm. But, I can talk to him on Wednesday when he comes over to see me.

And, a note: as requested, I won't be starting this story until the other two current stories are tied up and/or finished. Just so you know. But, with the consensus as a 'Go', I'll begin writing the opening chapter in preparation for posting. If anything changes, let me know. Thanks.

Oh and one more thing: I hate preconcieved anticipation. This story shouldn't be looked at as anything epic or grand. That is, unless you guys make it that way in writing it. Go re-read Crisis and ID Crisis, and things like that to get into the feel of it. It's the end of the world as we know it! And Vanguard feels......crappy?

Cheers.

I'm genuinely flattered.

If you have any cool ideas about where this story could head, PM me. I have a rough plan, but I'm open to suggestion (same goes for anyone else, by the way).

I should make it clear that I have no clear idea who's behind the robot animals, or why. I have a vague notion of what may happen to one of the characters at the end, and I'd like the climax of the story to take place in Melbourne to involve Danny, and that's about the extent of my pre planning. Post whatever the hell you want, people.

Got to say, although I have nothing to add to the story yet, absolutely no one has gotten Tiberius wrong yet. Bloody brilliant!

I especially loved the subtle scene of Mxy and Tiberius staring each other down in 'the background'. That was a truly funny mental image. And Danny captured the 'J'onn J'onnz/JLI'-type of personality that Ty has with his interactions with Mxy. I really, really like it guys. Better than I've done with him so far....

I finally figured out how to write Tiberius. It's simple, really; he's the straight man.

It may be that no one else gets this reference, but in my head Tiberius is Teal'c.
