A: Yes
It depends. If the tree falls and nothing is there except for the tree and nothingness, no. If there is more than just the tree in existance, ie the forest, yes. If the tree, in any state of it's existance has ever been observed (according to generally accepted theories) then yes it makes a sound. If the tree falls in outr space it makes a sound but nobody can hear it scream.

It wasn't my origianl intention to take questions asside from the oldest unanswerables (you have bsams thread for that), but this question is very important so i will answer it.
A: Optimus Prime is not a Republican. Prime was never granted US citizenship and he remains loyal to his home, Cybertron and his party, the Autobots who have been staunch allies of the United States since the Reagan administration.

If you want to get technical if a tree was in either the vacume of space or in a realm of utter nothingness, save the tree in question, then the tree wouldn't be able to "fall".

The light's going to be here either way tampered with by our existence or not. So it's moot.
Just cuz' we don't hear something doesn't mean there wasn't something to be heard.

It's been argued by perception theorists that our auditory processing system (ears-cochlea-auditory nerve-auditory processing centers in the temporal lobes) do create the resulting sonic experience (sound).
Outside your body, a tree falls and all that happens is the resulting compression and rarefaction of air/water molecules. Inside your body, those comrpessions and rarefactions are converted into sound.

No, I read about it in a book and they had a very good reason for why it wasn't a stupid theory. Which I have cleverly forgotton.

Don't me! I never said that the question was unimportant. I implied that nerds have a tendency to overanalyze a problem, thus creating a completely different (and often unanswerable) question.
It is as important to exclude all possible factors outside the realm of a stated problem as it is to include all possibilities within. Or, to put it another way, in THE QUEST FOR KNOWLEDGE it is important to recognize the question at hand.
But nerds, with their complicated ways, tend to forget this fact. Simplification without oversimplification is step one.
Sucka.

It's the result of a series of processes starting with the creation of the compression and rarefaction of molecules in the transmitting environment. The compression and rarefaction are converted within the ear to neural activity via the cochlea and transmitted to the auditory processing sites within the brain.

According to the dictionary:
# Vibrations transmitted through an elastic solid or a liquid or gas, with frequencies in the approximate range of 20 to 20,000 hertz, capable of being detected by human organs of hearing. # Transmitted vibrations of any frequency.
Before the ear as was made clear in the first post. You've all just caused your selved undo stress by not accepting it.
