Tenn. Teacher Accused of Sleeping With 13-Year-Old Student

McMINNVILLE, Tenn. — A Warren County elementary teacher has been charged with having a sexual relationship with one of her students, a 13-year-old boy.

Pamela Rogers Turner (search), 27, was charged Monday with 15 counts of sexual battery by an authority figure and 13 counts of statutory rape (search). All the charges involved the same boy.
Turner teaches physical education and coached girls basketball at Centertown Elementary, a Warren County school with grades kindergarten through eight in McMinnville.
District Attorney General Dale Potter said investigators believe some of the offenses happened at the school and some at the boy's home.
Turner lived at the boy's house "for a brief period of time when she was moving from residence to residence," Potter said Tuesday. The boy's parents knew she was living there but didn't know anything about a sexual relationship, Potter said.
Potter declined to comment on the nature of the relationship between Turner and her student, but he said investigators discovered multiple acts of sexual intercourse.
"It's attracting attention because it's a female teacher, and that's a little out of the ordinary," Potter said. "But for us, a sex abuse case is a sex abuse case."

On the other hand, Jim was trying to tie it to the subject at hand, whereas Jaburg said, in effect, it had nothing to do with teachers having sex with their students.
So, while Jim might be an accomplice, Jaburg is still the principal actor.

When I was in High-Shool there was an "attractve" female teacher who had sex with some students, but this never got beond the students and the teacher, but what I learned was this teacher was very overweight in high-shool and unpopular. I don't think it takes a phychological genius to realise that in her case she was trying to "fix" her unpopularity in shool. I'm sure there's equally pathetic reasons motivating these other teachers.

The counter-argument you're going to see, James, is that a 13-year old cannot make an informed decision to consent (cognitively or legally). IOW, he may have wanted to, but he "didn't know any better."

I think their would be a huge difference.
When you're 13 you are more likely to act on your urges. When you're 18, you would be more concerned about the consequences.

I could easily go out and talk a 13 year old rirls into having sex with me willingly. Even more so if I was in a position of authority. It would still be harmfull and it would still be wrong. I agree though that it wasn't rape, it also wasn't pedophilia. Therefore while I said she should be legally punished definately think the pusnishment should be less severe than if she had raped someone against thier will or had sex with a 5 year old. I don't think she necesarily would need prison time or anything more than a fine and some mental help (this all depends on what comes out in the trial).
