There's a number of things that make a priest abusing a kid seem less sinister than a teacher doing it... like for example that since priests are male, there's probably penetration when the kids are molested, while most of the molesting teachers are female, so the abuse is less invasive.

That would only apply if sodomy is illegal for adults as well as minors. But it's not. Hell! Sodomy isn't even illegal for minors as long as it's minors performing on other minors. If that's an outrageous concept for the secular world to endure, then they need to realize that they're the ones who created such a standard.

And BTW, there have been cases of male teachers with female students.

There's also the fact that priests are percieved as sexless by the kids, while with female teachers it's exactly the opposite... especially if they're hot as a great number of them seem to be (You don't wank to your priest when you're in sixth grade...).

The negative controversey around the issue has been based around the break in trust, not the Charisma of the offender. Yes, I realize the irony in the fact that the teachers who've done this are noticeably hot, but that makes no difference in light of the crime. In both cases, mentors took advantage of the impressionable neonates.

So, the "leap" when the priests end up being pervs is greater in perception than when it happens with a teacher.

That's no sort of excuse. The ire leveled at the priests and, inexorably, the Church, is based around the criminal nature of their actions. Not its outrageous implication through a break in image.
