On Friday morning I bought Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords for the PC. I installed it, generated a character and watched the opening movie. Then the screen went completely black, while the music continued to play in the background. The only way to break out of the game at that point was to manually turn off the computer. Anyway I did that a couple more times then I went looking for a patch. It turns out that there was an upgrade for my version of the game but it would only partially download. Technical support were utterly dismal.

I had a look around online to see if there was an obvious solution to the problem. The only remedy that I could find involved a lot of messing around with the set-up of the system and lay far beyond my limited technical abilities. While I was attempting to sort this out, I began to read about other serious problems people have been having with this game. One user even had his entire party gradually replaced by identical Wookie characters. That was the final straw for me. I’m used to bugs in software but I have never had a game fail on such a fundamental level before.

I took it back today and exchanged it for SIMS 2 which like all my other PC games actually works without me having to turn my system upside down to accommodate it.

This PC is exactly what the government gave me. It runs like ass. I should move to another country with better Free PC from the Government deals.

Or maybe I should become one of those double agents so I can get two Super PCs. I just don't know if a german PC would be compatible with an american one.

SIMS 2 works well on my machine but judging from the whirring noises emanating from my computer I think it is demanding a lot from the system. I can see it being the kind of game where I have to rigidly limit the amount of time I spend playing or I'm going to sink entire afternoons into it.

I'm still pissed that I couldn't get Kotor II to run properly. I've been playing X-Wing Alliance - an old game but a classic in my opinion - and it really put me in the mood for Star Wars.

console games are better in that aspect. If the game is designed for your console, you're 99% sure that it's going to run flawlessly. The 1% failure rate coming from the media being broken or the game itself being programmed to run like ass.

Yeah, I noticed too, that Kotor II is kinda bugged. Though I had no problems with the game going black on me I had other problems.

For instance the Swoop races were bugged. I wasn't driving through the tracks. I was flying through them. Which meant that I couldn't get any good times on them.

I know, tat's a small problem compared to game not running at all.

Yes, there were quite a few bugs. But I liked it anyway, once you get it to run, it's really cool

In spite of the bugs, which I suspect are down to the game being rushed out, I would still have liked to play this.

If Kotor II is like it's predecessor then the PC version will have more content than the console version.

It would take such a massive amount of polygons to accurately render the Jedi penis that the frame rate of the game would be slowed down to a crawl on even the fastest modern machine.

I think the days when we will see naked Jedi as a matter of routine in all Star wars games are still quite a way off.

No way, man. Yoda's penis should need 3 polygons tops.

Mace Windu would be a different story, though. He's black so we'd probably need an entire CD to store all the textures for his wang.
