The GOP seems to have badly misjudged the American mood by going after the New Deal so viciously. The Social Security phase-out is faltering, public opposition is hardening, and die-hard Republicans have taken to holding town hall meetings to drum up support among their own constituency. In Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum appeared at one such event, and promptly reminded us why George Bush is so reluctant to appear in front of actual, non-scripted voters. This delightful first-hand account courtesy of MyDD:

Outside the hall before the event, Philly DFA began chanting "Hey-hey, ho-ho, Rick Santorum has got to go!" Local college Republicans, who are just about the only Republicans in West Philly, responded with a chant that beautifully was captured live by CNN: "hey-hey, ho-ho, Social Security has got to go!"
