In the playoffs, hockey settles ties with full 20 minute overtime periods that are played until someone scores. A game can go one forever. There was a five-overtime playoff game just a few years ago.
And as for skill level, most athletes in other sports can't play hockey at the highest level (NHL). The level of coordination involved is increadible. Have you tired skating while handling a puck? It's not that easy. And shooting it in a tiny goal with a huge, well padded goalie in the way who presents a moving target, while some guy is trying to line you up for a hit or trying to tie up your stick? And there are the guys who can deflect a 100 mph slapshot half an inch out of the goalie's reach.
Sorry Rex, they don't come more difficul, physical, or skilled than hockey.
Once all the hockey teams move to America, it will be a sport.
