Michael Bay on the Transformers Trailer Source: ShootfortheEdit.com December 14, 2006
Transformers director Michael Bay has made a new post on his official message board talking about the teaser trailer that will hit next week:
It has been awhile since I've posted. Finished shooting end of Sept., on budget, just came under $300,000. I beat Pearl by a $100,000. I had a great time making this movie, the cast and crew were amazing.
Today I just finished the new teaser for Christmas and I think it's AWESOME! The trailer mixing Guru who does all the big summer movies turned to me and said with a little more ump - it was "f**king awesome".
I think some of my films have had good teasers but this one is just makes a statement. It's hard edged to show we are not a silly "toy" movie. We show just hints of robots - and almost none of our epic shots are in this teaser, but the movie just looks big. I had a room full of 20 Transformers adult geeks, and they all applauded at the end.
It comes out the 22nd - see it in the theater! Let me know what you think.
Oh, and new pictures:
Ratchet
Bumblebee
Bumblebee Weapons Close-up
Jazz (I still wish Bernie Mac was doing this role for the movie...)
"You're either lying or stupid." "I'm stupid! I'm stupid!" Megatron and Starscream
Yeah, originally, I thought he was going to be the voice of Jazz, since the original voice actor has passed away.
(Plus...come on, Bernie would make an awesome Jazz. "Optimus! I'm 'bout to club Starscream like a baby seal!" One of my favorite episodes of his show...)
Apparently he's the car salesman that sells Bumblebee to Spike.
"You're either lying or stupid." "I'm stupid! I'm stupid!" Megatron and Starscream
That sounds like a Robot Chicken skit gone horribly wrong.
"Due to low profits during the final quarter in 2006, Hasbro has to decided to cut back and merge two of their product lines together. My Little Transformers."

So, my dad collects pictures of 'modified' police cars (there's one the says 'We'll Kick Yor Ass and Steal Your Donuts) for his office. And I decided to print pictures of the new evil cop car Barricade. After all, how often do you see a cop car with the words 'Punish and Enslave' replace 'Protect and Serve'?

Yeah I'm reading the critique...I can recognize my own BS. I probably glanced at the IMDB page, went 'too long!' and wrote something ambigious. 'Add more pictures?' In my defense, I was taking Genetics at the time.
Please Doc, don't kill me! I learned my lesson!

VW won't let them. A lot of Japanese and German car companies don't want their vehicles holding guns. Can't imagine why. Oh wait, those car companies have a naughty WW2 rap sheet. Ah...
Anyways, they wont let Hasbro use their likeness for toys or the movie. (There's a line of toys made a few years back with licensed cars...I think Optimus is a GMC truck, Grimlock is a Mustang, etc. There aren't any Misubishis or BMWs because they refused to sell the rights.) The exception is if the character doesn't hold a gun. So...which would you rather have?
At least time, we really can 'blame the Germans'.
"You're either lying or stupid." "I'm stupid! I'm stupid!" Megatron and Starscream
Yeah, that surprised me when I watched the movie. I also liked the line "Open, dammit! Open!" The big blue one says that before Galvatron smacks him upside the head with his gun.
If you look at the DVD's chapter titles, that epic sceen is, indeed, titled 'Swear Word'.
Oh, PigIron, you strike me as a Soundwave fan. With that in mind...here you go:

I'd rather they not hold guns. Not cuz I'm against guns or anything. It's just stupid to have them transform into anything but what they transformed to in the show. That and they could very easily do a movie without guns...and probably save themselves some bad press when kids go shooting themselves with the real stuff.
See, I hate VW Bugs. I think they're sissy cars. So I really don't go all nostalgic-hungry when they talk about a camero. Besides, how the heck are they suppose to fight without a weapon? Run up and kick Megatron in the exhaust port?
Also, I probably didn't phrase the original comments right...some of the stuff mentioned 'guns' and others said 'associate with violence'. That's not as easy to define.

...blocky... 80s vehicles?
a semi truck with magically teleporting base?
a ridiculously small hand held gun that can float into someone else's hand, but then must be wielded?
i don't get it ... what is this absolute fixation on things having to remain exactly the same? why not allow any breathing room for updates, upgrades, modernization, a new take...?
