The VW Bug is more in tune with Bumblebee's personality. He was the little guy, the least powerful. While everyone else are heavy duty trucks and sports cars, he's the little VW Bug. It's all about him being an underdog. That's something that a muscle car Camero doesn't bring across. It also doesn't fit the name 'Bumblebee' as well as a VW BUG does.
