Trailer? Looks freaking awesome. I especially love the shots of Parker fighting in his street clothes. Love it any time they give the guy under the mask a chance to shine like that.
I also noticed how they're subtely keeping Osborne's outfit "secret" by not showing it in a direct shot.
Of course, I really hope they show where the Venom outfit comes from, as I would hate it to just "appear" because he wants revenge. That kind of stuff smacks of when he lost his powers because he didn't "believe in himself". If nothing else, I hope they'll say it came back with John Jameson's shuttle from space, or something like that.
We'll see. Either way, looks to be another hit for the franchise. And, if nothing else, Raimi sure knows how to shoot some action scenes. More superhero movies should take note...

As far as action scenes go Spider-Man two was ok. However the first one looked like two power rangers in a bitch fight.

What, no one's seen the unfinished second trailer featuring Venom? He looks OK. I don't know why, but I was expecting the musclebound heathen we know in the comics. Then I remembered this is Topher we've talking about.
It's on YouTube. Find it while it's still available. It's a rough cut; but the Venom FX are complete.

yes, excellent point. your writers are workin over time!
i've hated spider-man movies because i thought they were crap. toby's acting is shit. and he's creepy. the villains have been nonsense (though i've also always hated most all spider-man villains). a lot of the spider-man special effects (swinging n'such) are surprisingly pretty poor.
i also really dislike the translation to film of the characters wearing full masks. interactions between spidey and goblin were power rangersesque.
i've enjoyed aspects of the series; jameson's whole persona, stopping the runaway train in 2, the post-powers, pre-suit high school moments from the first movie, etc. but as a whole, i've never understood the (mass!) appeal to the two films. especially when compared to, what i feel, is the vastly superior xmen franchise.
this third spidey film looks to be a lot more of the same.
buuut... venom rules. the villain is great, the costume is great, the struggle spidey faces while in the symbiote is great. so i have big hopes for this third edition.

While I won't disagree with certain things like the waste of Willem Dafoe's creepy-ass facial expression hidden behind a gay mask, I think this is comparing apples to....well....older apples. From my experience with the two movie franchises, Singer's X-MEN was obviously written for a more adult crowd. The SPIDER-MAN movies are really written for the more younger crowd. And, I see nothing wrong with that. The (mass!) appeal of SPIDER-MAN goes into parents being able to spend a trillion on merchandising for their kids who run around pretending to web things. X-MEN focuses on dark, feral loner that smokes stogies and guts people. Not exactly kid-friendly in the short term. And, by gob, I certainly wouldn't want them to dumb-down Wolverine to fit the younger crowd. In fact, here's hoping for some dark brutality when Jackman makes the Wolverine solo films.

Whereas, I loathe Venom. He was cool in that first appearance back in Amazing #300. Ever since, he's had this fucking ridiculous tongue-thing going on (what the FUCK is the deal with that? Anyone?), and just seems to be the "Spider-Man from the Mirror Universe". A trite, and boring concept. The Sandman should be cool, though. And, I hope Maguire beats some acting ability into the actor that plays Harry Osborne...

The guy who plays Harry Osborne reminds me a lot of another actor who cannot act.. Hayden Christenson. He looks a bit like him, and sounds like him, too.. I thought it was him for about 3 seconds when I first saw the movie.
Sandman has long been of my favorite Spidey (And FF )villains.
I can't wait to see him on the big screen!

As Pro said, they're two different types of comic book films. Spider-man is supposed to be more pop-ish than the X-Men just due to the kind of character he is. The Spider-Man movies are just a lot of fun while the X-Men movies are more engrossing due to the characters and how they interact (I'm, of course, excluding the last movie).

Did any of you guys read Avengers Finale? It was a one-shot that came out right after Disassembled and right before New Avengers. Bendis, and a roster of different artists (including Perez!) doing a story about the remaining members coming together one last time at the gutted mansion to say "Farewell" to the team concept. In that, they reference generally every "forgotten" Avenger that's died. Although, I think they left out the Shiar chick...

Raimi's reason for using Venom in the 3rd movie sounds forced. I'm not blaming him at all. It just sounds like he didn't want to use Venom at all, but is because the fans are demanding it. Now don't get me wrong here, it's great that the man is listening to the fans. But the threads linking the 3 movies are Peter's relationship with MJ and Harry's grudge against Spider-Man. Having a Venom story thrown in could take too much away from those stories as well as any Sandman goodness.
