My absolute pure guess...
Church will play a villian like Electro or Mysterio, or someone. Topher Grace will play Venom. Due to his obvious physical/age similarities to Tobey, he'll be the "evil" Spider-Man.
That's just a guess, given corporate/Avi Arad thinking.
Just a guess/opinion...

I thought Raimi said that he had no interest in Venom. 1) for the character and 2) the need for CG for Venom's face.

In superhero movies, the problem is never with the number of villains - it's with the story you tell with them. Multiple villains didn't work in the Batman sequels due to poor plotting and storytelling.

Absolutely right. It became about the actor behind the characters, instead of the other way around.
In comics, writers don't have to worry about how much screen time the villian gets, as he's not played by an actor. In movies...especially after Jack Nicholson's Joker...more and more time was spent with the villian(s). I hate that trend. Set the villian up, and then concentrate on the good guy. I don't go to see a movie because it's called Joker, or, Green Goblin....

I'm hearing now that Church is up for Sandman, and Grace may be The Hobgoblin.
It doesn't sound like they'll be using Scorpion or Electro - too bad.

Church would make a great Sandman. Sandman's probably my favorite Spider-Man villian. I started reading those comics in the era when you had Sandman and Hydroman (ugh) team-up to take Spidey down. Heh.
I can't see Grace as Hobgoblin. I mean, wouldn't it make more sense if Harry became the Hobgoblin?

Not bad. This might shape up to be a good flick. I'm still kinda curious as to why they wouldn't use Franco as Green Goblin II in this film (seeing as how they set it all up so nicely), but I suppose I'll just wait and see the finished product to see how well they handle everything.
