Trailers HereI am totally stoked for this movie. I've been waiting for this since I first read the books back in 1985. I was pleasantly excited to hear the voice of the Guide from the old BBC Radio series as the announcer in Trailer #3, reprising his role as "The Book". Anyone else into this?

Yes. They've been teasing at a new movie since '93 or so. I enjoyed the original movie, but I think it would be so much better with an element of quality.

The bookstore in the mall here is selling them all in one giant hardcover for about $15.

Adam's word play is incredibly entertaining like the "substance almost, but not entirely unlike tea". The line that still gets me is what the potted plant was thinking as it fell to the ground from out of nowhere "oh, no. Not again." It's sad to know that he was working on a new Hitchhikers Book when he died.
Did you read "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" and it's sequel "The Long dark Tea Time of the Soul"? I honestly enjoyed these books more than Hitchikers on some level. This conversation has convinced me to read Hitchikers again before teh movie comes out.

One of my favorite scholastic excercises came out of this. For a project we cad to come up with three examples of Vogon poetry...and then critique the work of others in the class using an established Vogon criteria. This shit was so fun, I still remember that class (fuck...secondary 5, some 10+ years ago.

Getting graded on bad poetry. That must have been awesome. How did they measure the grading of it?
WBAM, I have devoured every book Adams ever wrote, including the last one that came out posthumously, A Salmon of Doubt (which includes what he had completed of a third Dirk Gently book...only a chapter-and-a-half. It just stops. It's heartbreaking.)
I absolutely love the Dirk Gently character. Adams once said that he was his own, personal version of "The Doctor" from Doctor Who. Now, that's a franchise that should be made into a movie right there. And, I would cast Eddie Izzard (see my avatar) as Gently himself. Just off the top of my head, really....

Yes it's definitely worth it. I just picked up the huge Hitchhikers book with all five stories without ever hearing of it, the movie, or even Adams. Actually, if I remember correctly it was the introduction written by Neil Gaimen that first caught my interest. But I have loved ever part of these stories. The writing is so unique and the humor is amazing.

Also pretty cool they just rereleased the old six part BBC show on DVD. It's about thirty dollars but I thought it was surprisingly good

I picked it up a couple of years back for, like $3 at the bookstore I worked at... but still haven't found the time to read any of them. I will add it to my post-collegiate book list, but I'll have to graduate college first...
