Got a free pass for an advance screening from my comic guy.
And it is
The.
Best.
Fucking.
Comic.
Book.
Movie.
EVER.
No bullshit. Now, I know many of you have your own personal faves...be it the 1st Superman, the 1st Bat-Man, Spider-Man, X-men, American Splendor, Ghost World....whatever.
But this film is faithful to the source material in a way I've never seen before.
The screen shots were filmed directly from the pages of the book...same angles, lighting, everything.
The dialouge was word for word from the comic...a few cuts here and there but only where necessary to keep the pace moving.
The casting was perfect. Just about every actor was faithful to the comic version of the character.
As far as being a movie on it's own merits...for those that might not be familiar with the comic...the acting/line delivery would seem to be stunted. Not the greatest performances you've ever seen by the actors involved. But, that's because the comic itself is a stylized version of the classic noir movies of the 40's and 50's. What works on a written page can come across as a little stilted when said out loud. With that in mind, I think the performances were great and, again, very true to the actual books.
The only real minus was never getting to see Jessica Alba or Rosario Dawson all nuded up and stuff.
The movie was made from 3 of the Sin City stories...

The original Sin City stories from some old Dark Horse anthology series.
There's also a moment in one of the segments lifted directly from A Dame To Kill For.
Up until now, I think that Blade has been my fave flick based on a comic.
Sin City has surpassed everything I've seen up to this point.

I heard rosario was going to have a see through top (not true apparently)..all the people that went to pre-screenings last week said there was no nudity, just plenty of cheescake...I don't think we'll see Alba nude anytime soon...

CHUD had an interview up where she said she was willing to go topless but not bottomless. The decision to have her stay clothed was supposidely because they thought her being nude would detract from what they were trying to accomplish.

I work evenings and I'm generally a night-owl, so a Midnight movie is no sweat. I'm catching it down at the Randolph theater...stadium seating and digital sound.

I went to a midnight showing, and there was certainly nudity -- lots of Jaime King and Carla Gugino bouncing about.. 
A kickass film, to be certain -- the whole group I was with loved it...

just got back!
sweet friggin flick. very cool and clean, like with a ocean's eleven / pulp fiction feel. and very, very true to the comic -- right down to reusing identical dialog and scenes.
very beautiful.
the acting didn't always translate right. the dialog and text and voice overs were all very pulpy and milleresque, but unless you're willing to accept that going in, you mighr find it a little drab at times.

This movie was fucking amazing! Not a bad performance in this flick! It was 95+% faithful to the source material! Bloody and violent as hell! Rosario Dawson...Carla Gugino...Jessica Alba (who I have a newfound respect for)...so many hot chicks!!!
This was the most loyal, and arguably the best, comic book-related movie!!! 5 stars!!!
