sooooo.... hey howsit goin!
whats that? major crash? everything deleted? years of cyber history erased? ...and more!
so, last weekend, i went away on vacation. i was sposda make friday, july 30th, my last posting day, but before i left, early saturday morning, i decided to get in a few posting moments. i was gonna miss my boards so, and i didn't want to leave angry at them.
so, saturday morning, i post one or two things, then head on over to my blog and actually state that i was leaving for a while, and wouldn't be back until later.
that was maybe 10 am, on saturday, july 31st. immediately afterward, i left for vacation.
within hours, my boards grew sentient form once again, and decided to join me on vacation, only to return to action mere moments after i arrived home.
at least, thats what i like to believe happened.
but in m. night robylan fashion, there's always a twist at the end.
y'see, aparently, the webhost the rkmbs is currently using, lunarpages, a-sploded! the specific server we're on lost all of its mysql databases. lost
entirely. even their backups were gone. the rkmbs were, essentially, deleted .... forever!!! (ever, ever, ver, ver...er.....r.r.....)
one day into my vacation, i was alerted by digitaldawg that the boards were down. i had a laptop with a weak dialup connection, but it was enough to email lunarpages, who, after days of waiting and back and forth emailing, finally got me the "...whoops!" message, and made a promise of ... doing nothing further to help out.
"our bad. so sad."
woo!
anyway, i arranged for one of my backup copies on my pc at home to be ftp'd to lunarpages server, who then took an additional 2 days to finally get it back online ... happening, literally, 30 minutes after i got home from my trip.
so, where does this leave us now?
it more than likely means i have to start shelling out some bigger dollars to keep this puppy active. the hosts i've used in the past (aplus, powweb, lunarpages), i picked cuz they're purdy cheap. but, unfortunately, its a "you get what you pay for" kinda world, and that has resulted in much rkmbs downtime, as you all well know.
i'm currently scouting around for other alternatives -- something to keep us online, non stop, and maybe even pick up the speed a little. something so that i can go on vacation without message boards on my mind!
i mean, dear boards, i love you deeply, and i'm honored and flattered that you grew arms and legs and traveled hundreds of miles to be with me, and experience human vacation and relaxation. but.... c'mon, she-server ... lemme go!
