I'd actually be happy for things to end in X3. The X-men movies have been pretty good, but theres no point in carrying on the franchise just to whore out more redundant stories. The lack of a Sentinel program is a letdown, but you cant get much higher in X-Legend story-telling if a Mutant cure is released to the Marvel U public [what ever happened to Joss Whedons 'Theres a cure' story in X-men, that ever progress?]

Way I see it, the only way to go onwards from a massive Judgement day smackdown with Magneto is to delve further into the 'cosmic' element, and X-men in Space never did sit too well with me....

That looks awesome! I actually think that the lack of a Sentinel program is good because the Sentinels never really made sense in a realistic way. They constantly destroyed public property and innocent people in a failed attempt to capture mutants. While that's exciting, you can't really make it seem realistic the way that the movies are portraying themselves.

well, they could maybe slip it in. i don't kow about a city battle, but, maybe a smaller, coming across a sentinel factory in an out of the way place, where they can fight a few. but then for such a small part iono how much it would cost.

That's true. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm just saying the concept seems very foreign to me. Even more so than mutants in general need to.

Yeah, I don't think the general public would get robots hunting people..you know since there has never been a terminator movie. I think many people would approve of giant robots hunting gay cowboys though..bizarre since, you know, mutants are a metaphor for minority groups everywhere..

I'm sorry, my point was over here. The new X-Men movies have had a more real-world portrayal of the comic book. No spandex, more toned down powers, fewer space aliens, etc. While Terminator robots may work wonderfully in post apocalyptic worlds devastated by war (I wish I could think of a film franchise that had robots like these, but dammit it just keeps slipping away), these same robots do not work in a setting like we have in the world right now.

The movie going public loves giant robots. They paid good money to go see the Matrix, War of the Worlds and that one movie that had the Terminator robots. I'm talking about the fictional public responding to robots in their front yards in a realistic manner. Willful suspension of disbelief kind of stuff.

Well, two things. One, it has happened that law enforcement requires the destruction of private property. Second, suspension of disbelief has to come in to play. There are moments of realism in the X movies, but overall, no. It's still a comic book movie, just one that's well played. It's realistic that a mutant's parents don't understand their children and find their abilities unwelcome. But it's not realistic that some kid wields fire and takes on the cops with it.

I wanted to see Sentinels not for any sake of realism, but for the sake of visual spectacle and their role in the history of the X-Men.

I've seen more cop movies and more action movies than I want to admit where cops are chasing bad buys and "constantly destroy public property and [endanger] innocent people". I don't see Hollywood having a problem with realism there.
