In comics it has often been said that he was 8 years old when his parents were shot & killed,and started training to get into physical condition!
Then as a teen he went abroad to study with detectives & martial artists etc,then began his Bat career around the age of 22.
Are we to believe that he became a mechanical genius in his early teens,or maybe the ancient Tibetan monks also had a secret lab that they trained him in with some of the most fantastic technology ever seen?

Theres no reason why he cant be capable of tweaking and refining things,but theres absolutely no reason why he has to invent & build stuff from the ground up!
