All the kids in Bob's magic 101 class laughed at him. He was the worst one there. Nearly all his spells went awry.

For example, the teacher, Mr. Oberon, would tell the class to make a rubber ball appear, and when it was Bob's turn, he produced a box of condoms. The class howled with laughter. Bob was humiliated. He was the least popular boy in the entire school because of his troubles at learning spells, and because he was painfully shy and was rather inept at interractions with other children.

Another time, when asked to produce a frog, he created soap bubbles..and they kept on multiplying until half the room was neck high in bubbles, and the teacher, Mr. Oberon, had to cast the spell, " Be - gone! " to send the bubbles away. Some of the boys called Bob " Mister Bubble " after this incident.

Bob was a thin boy of 13. He had just begun a growth spurt, as he was nearly 14. He had dark brown hair, and was very shy.

Bob's mother had died when he was only 7 years old. She was a Beautiful woman, thin yet healthy looking, with long light brown hair. She was killed by a car that had ran a red light at a busy intersection while she was crossing. It had happened too quickly for her to cast a spell to save herself.

Bob was now 13, and had been raised by a father who had two jobs and was almost never home. His father loved Bob, and they were all each other had now. His mother had loved him dearly, and it was she whom Bob had inherited his magical abilities from. She used to sing songs to him to get him to fall alseep. He missed her terribly. After her death, he began to have problems concentrating. When he was of age, 12 years old, his father sent him away to the most prestigious school for young magicians in the US, called Endora Academy.

It was a rather expensive school, at that. Bob knew this, and knew also that his father had worked extremely hard to afford to send him there. He did not want to fail, or let his father down, but he had problems with several of his classes.

One afternoon, Bob's teacher, Mr. Oberon asked Bob to stay after class. It was the last class of the day.

" Bob", Mr. Oberon started......" You're in danger of failing my class, as well as a few others. I want to tutor you. I'd hate to see you be dismissed from Endora Academy. "

" Me too, Mr. Oberon. "

" Bob, you need to concentrate....think of a pleasant memory..use it to focus your power and accomplish your goal. ", the man said. Mr. Oberon was in his late 60's, with a longish white beard, long white hair, and an all black suit with a white shirt and black tie. He was a stocky man, very strong looking. He was quite outgoing and confident. Bob wished he were as confident as Mr. Oberon.

" You can do it......I am certain of it. " , Mr. Oberon said encouraginly, almost as if he'd read Bob's mind.

" Now......I'm going to make an apple appear....and it will fly towards you.....you must stop it from touching you. "

" Think.....think of a pleasant memory...focus on it..gain strength from it."

" Yes, Sir. " Bob said hesitantly.

" I know you can do it! " Mr. Oberon said in a very positive tone, and made an apple appear, which began to fly at Bob, though not fast or hard enough to hurt him, should it actually strike him.

Bob raised his wand, concentrated, said " Trans - mute.", and quickly turned the apple into apple sauce. It fell to the floor at Bob's feet.

" You did it! " Mr. Oberon exclaimed.

" I did, didn't I? " Bob smiled as he said this, though the test had been fairly easy. It was just he and his teacher.
Could he do the same thing in from of his 22 class mates, where their would be real pressure? Bob was uncertain.

" Now, you go and practice. Remember, finals are in 4 weeks. "

Bob thanked his teacher for the extra help, and left. In the weeks that followed, Mr. Oberon and a few other teachers gave him badly needed extra lessons and encouragement. He began to improve. For the first time in two years, he actually felt confident about his abilities. But finals were approaching. Would he be able to pass the tests in front of his class mates?

His only friend at the school, a short, chubby boy named Richard, had been helping him, too.

" You can do it, Bob, I just know you can.", Richard said in between bites of a chocolate candy bar. " Besides, if you don't pass, Who'll be my room mate for freshman year? " Richard smiled as he said that.

" Thanks. " " Hey, " Bob added, " Let me try an enlarging spell on that candy bar of yours. "

" Sure! " Richard said happily, as he held the half eaten chocolate bar out for Bob to put the spell on.

Bob concentrated, and said the word, " Enlargo! "

Waves of brilliant white light came forth from Bob's wand. They struck the chocolate bar, which began to shimmer, then explode. It went all over Richard's face, suit and white shirt.

" Yuck!! Bob, you really need to practice on that spell! ", said Richard, as he pulled a hankerchief out of his pocket and wiped the chocolate off his face.

" Um, yeah, I guess so. " Bob giggled at the sight of his friend's face, covered in chocolate.

Time passed quickly, as it usually does when you want it to procede slowly, because you are dreading something that will occur on a given date.

It was finally the day of the Magic 101 final exam. Bob and Richard hurried off to get their in time.

" Do you think you have that enlarging spell..and the other spells memorized? " Richard asked, as he dug some jelly beans out of his pocket.

" I think so. Well, wish me luck. "

" You got it, Bob! "

" Thanks...good luck to you, too, Richard. "

They arrived at class. it was the last final exam of the year, the others having been done with. Bob had gotten excellent grades in all of them, but he needed to get an A in this one to pass for the year.

Mr Oberon greeted the children as they entered his class.

" Ok, may I have your attention, Everyone form a line, and we shall begin with the final exam for Magic 101. "

With that, the children formed a line. The girls were orderly, but some of the boys pushed and shoved other students in front of them.

" I can't wait to see what Mister Bubble does. ",snickered Val Jenkins, the boy who had always given Bob the most trouble at school. Several students laughed and made faces at Bob.

Bob blushed and looked down, praying he would not fail.

" Alright, class, quiet now. I'm going to throw an object at you, and you must prevent it from striking you by changing it or protecting yourself with a shield."

Carol Donaldson was first. Mr. Oberon threw a book at her. She used her wand and tried to turn it into something else, but the book kept dodging. At the last instant, her spell hit it and turned the book into a bunch of feathers, which fluttered gently to the floor, only inches from her.

" Achoo! " Carol sneezed. " Must be duck feathers. I'm allergic. " Carol stated.

" Bless you, Carol. And very well done! " Mr. Oberon told the girl.

Mr. Oberon turned the feathers into a peach, and made it float into his hand.

Bill Norton was next. He appeared nervous, which was unlike him, but his mother had called him just an hour earlier and nagged at him to pass the test and get an A. He knew if he didn't get all A's, she would yell at him for weeks after he got home for summer.

" Okay, Bill, your turn! " Mr. Oberon made the peach float towards Bill, who panicked, and accidentally used a spell that turned the peach into a giant, carnivorous, ten foot tall dinosaur -like monster. It started towards the boy.

At that moment, before Mr. Oberon could turn the monster back into a peach again, a boy who had panicked ran into the teacher, knocking him so that his head hit the desk, rendering him unconscious.

The children ran in all directions. Only Bob, Richard and and Carol Donaldson were left in the class room, and the ten foot tall dinosaur prepared to make a meal out of the three children.

Bob quickly pulled out his wand and shouted the word, " Trans - mute! "

White light came from his wand, striking the hungry dinosaur, which then turned quickly into a peach again.

Mr. Oberon had come to by this time, and had seen it all.

" Good boy, Bob! You not only saved yourself, your class mates and me, you get an A on your final exam! "

The rest of the class rushed back into the room once they saw the danger was over. The boy who had ridiculed Bob the most, Val Jenkins, put Bob on top of his shoulders, and told Bob, " You're Alright! " and everyone cheered Bob. It was one of the happiest moments of his young life. He was finally accepted by his peers, though he was still just a shy kid at heart.

After all the other students had taken and passed their final exam, even Bill Norton, because Mr. Oberon understood about his mother making him upset just before the test, though he did not get an A, and only Bob, Richard, and the teacher remained in the class room, Mr. Oberon asked Bob what memory or pleasant thought he had used to focus as he turned the deadly dino back into a harmless peach.

" I thought of my Mom and Dad, dancing to one of thier favorite old songs, before Mom had died. "

" What was the name of the song? " Mr. Oberon asked the young wizard.

" It was called Tequilla. "

It was called Endora Academy. The original building was castle - like in appearance. It had many additions put onto it. It was at least 200 years old.

It was a HUGE building. It was quite impressive. It had been permanently obscurred from being seen by non magical beings when a cloaking spell was cast over it in 1803. In the daytime, Endora Academy looked quite friendly. By night, it had a rather forboding appearance.

It was a rather expensive school, at that. Bob knew this, and knew also that his father had worked extremely hard to afford to send him there. He did not want to fail, or let his father down, but he had problems with several of his classes.

Daddy Dearest part 1

A short story by Beardguy57.

Jack had just turned 58. His longish beard was almost totally gray now. He was about 5 foot 6, and very thin. His hair was still mostly dark brown, what there was of it. His thinning hair was kept rather short and neat.

He had lived in the same small house with his mother for many years, ever since his wife of 15 years had died in a car accident. He had loved his wife, Trudy, very much. He still loved her. She was a very attractive woman, with dark brown shoulder length hair, very even features, and the most incredibly alive, dark brown eyes he had ever seen on any human being. She was quite intelligent, loved to laugh, and had a bad temper, and a quick tongue for those foolish enough to think they could get the best of her.

Trudy was strong for a woman, too, and threw a mean right hook. She appeared quite feminine. She just didn't take any shit from people who wanted to take advantage of her good nature.

The farm on which they lived together was quite old. It had been in her family for over 130 years. It was mostly wooded area, with several acres cleared for the one story house, which Trudy and her father had built themselves. It had a grey roof, and the outer walls were painted a blue - gray. The kitchen had floor to ceiling windows on one side. This was Trudy's idea. She wanted to be able to look out at the 64 acres of farmed land, and the woods that surrounded the property.

It was a beautiful, isolated , private area. Living there was like being in heaven.

A three quarter mile long dirt road led from the house to the nearest paved road, and then it was a 6 mile drive to the main highway.

The town where Jack and Trudy Lived in rural Delaware was quite small. Everyone knew practically everybody else, and their business, too. Trudy had lived on the same 150 acre farm there all her life.

She and Jack had met through a mutual friend. It was love at first sight. They moved in together 9 months after they'd first met. They did not marry. Trudy had been married and divorced twice before, and both marriages were hell. She didn't believe in marriage anymore, but did believe in love.

Trudy decided on Jacks' 40 th birthday to surprise him with the nicest birthday cake she could find. She loved doing things for Jack..she was quite a giving woman. Jack, in turn , loved to surprise her with little gifts, cooking her favorite meals, and helping her around the house and around the farm. She had bought him a kitten a few weeks before Jack turned 40. Jack named him Taz. Taz was into everyhing, showed a great deal of intelligence, and was extremely loving.

Trudy had been gone just over an hour when Jack recieved a phone call....it was their mutual friend, Mike, who had introduced the two.

" Hi, Jack..it's Mike..I'm afraid I have some bad news for you...there's been an accident...it's Trudy...."

" How bad is it? " Jack asked, as a feeling of dread washed over him, like a heavy rain.

" I'm afraid she's dead, Jack. "

Jack would remember those five words for the rest of his life.

He was numb as he got into the car and drove to the morgue to identify her body.

When the man there pulled out the slab, he saw it was Trudy. Her beautiful face was undamaged. She died when the steering wheel crushed in her rib cage, crushing and compressing her heart and lungs. She had died almost instantly.

" I want to be alone with her. "

" That's against hospital rules. " the man, a tall, burly black man with a shaved head and a large hoop earring told him.

" I want a few minutes alone with the woman I loved for over 15 years. " Jack said, firmly. " Don't you have a coffee break coming up? " Jack added, being uncharacteristically firm. This was not how he usally was. Normally, he avoided conflict.

" Um, tell you what? I think I'll go get a cup of coffee...I'll be back in 5 minutes. " The large man said, his eyes betraying a bit of sympathy for Jack.

Jack waited until the man was gone, then he put Trudy's hand in his, and cried.

" I love you, Trudy..I'll always love you. " He cried some more, Kissed her on the forehead, told her goodbye, and then left.

His life became a living hell in the days that followed.
Trudy had not left a will. She had a large redneck, uneducated family. They wanted the farm so that they could sell it. They did whatever they could to harrass him.

They got the police after him. They had convict friends in prison make threatening calls. The family broke and stole things from the farm. The police would not help Jack. They told him it was a civil matter. A lawyer offered to help. Jack did not know he was really working for Trudy's family. He used information Jack gave him and told the family. He took what little money Jack had left, and quit the case after Jack was broke. Jack never felt so alone in his life.

He'd been able to have Trudy cremated, and spread her ashes around the farm, as she had told him she wanted, should he outlive her. He kept a small amount of her ashes and put them into a porcelain match box container he'd given her for Valentines' Day many years ago.

After 4 months of taking shit from Trudy's family , Jack could take no more. He rented a moving van, packed whatever would fit into it, and left.

Before he left, he took one last look at the house. He went in, and kissed the door to their bedroom.

" Goodbye, Trudy....I love you.. " he said, his voice choking.

He looked at the house in the rear view mirror as he drove slowly past it. It was a one floor ranch house, with three bedrooms and one bathroom, and a large kitchen.

He would miss that house for the rest of his life.

It was cloudy out, and soon began to rain. The tiny raindrops began to pelt the windshield as a fine mist at first. Soon, they became larger, and Jack turned on the windshield wipers. It began to rain heavily shortly afterwards.

" Good, " Jack thought. " Just perfect. " He wanted it to rain every day for the rest of his life. He wanted never to see the sunlight again.

Taz meowed a lot at the start of the trip in his cat carrier, but soon quieted down.

" I know, boy, I miss Trudy and the farm, too. " He told his cat, who was now 7 months old, and looking more like a grown up cat than a kitten. Taz was all black, with shiny, soft fur, and beautiful yellow eyes. He would treasure Taz as long as he had him. He was a gift from Trudy. Taz was a good friend.

He drove all the way back to West Virginia, to the small town he'd grew up in. After a drive of several hours, most of it through pouring rain, he finally arrived at his destination. The small home where his 68 year old mother lived. It was a two story home in a rural neighborhood. Not as isolated as the farm had been, but it was a pleasant enough area.

The house was just over 50 years old. It was a split level home, white paint, and bare bricks on the outside, with three bedroms on the upstairs, a bathroom in the master bedroom, a bathroom in the hall, and a huge dining room,
large kitchen, and a spacious den. The living room floor had black and white tile on it. the den had a green indoor -outdoor carpet, and the floor in the kitchen was plain white tiles. Their was a bathroom in the den.

Jack pulled up into the driveway in the heavy rain, and checked his car, a metallic blue1971 Chevy Impala, which had been attached to the rear of the moving van. It was fine. He detached it, and moved it away from the van.

He went to the van to get Taz.

The front door of his mother's house opened up. His mother hobbled out on her walker. She was a very thin, tiny woman with long grey hair tied up in a bun.

" Jack! Jack, come in before you catch pneumonia." She told him.

" It wouldn't really matter if I did. "

'' Jack! You get inside now! I care what happens to you, and I'm sure your kitty does, too."

Jack came in. His mother hugged him, in spite of his being soaked. Taz was wet, too. Jack let him out of the cat carrier, grabbed a nearby towel his mother had left out, and dried him off. Taz purred as he did so.

" Now you dry off, too. " Jack mother said, as she handed him a large white towel.

Jack took the towel and dried off his hair and beard.

Jack set up food and water bowls for Taz, and a litterbox, too. Taz used them all immediately.

Jack went upstairs to his old bedroom to lie down.

Jacks's mother never changed a thing in it, for when he came back to visit. He was grateful for that. It was a small bedroom, with a twin bed, small tables on either side with matching lamps with hunting scenes from old English prints on them, and fit the tables well. Their was a dresser, and a large closet. Jack layed down on the bed and fell asleep almost immediately. He was exhausted from packing all night, and the trip. Taz jumped up on his chest and fell asleep, too.

End Part one.

Daddy Dearest part two

A story by Beardguy57.

Jack slept for hours. He woke up to the smell of bacon.
He carefully picked Taz up off of him, patted him, and went to the bathroom, then got dressed and walked downstairs to the kitchen.

" Goodmorning, Jack. How did you sleep? "

" Morning, Mom. " Jack looked at the bacon. He was very hungry after not having eaten any dinner the night before.
He hungrily watched the strips fry in the pan. His mother was cooking eggs and toast, too.

" I slept great. I was exhausted. "

" I know you were. You've been through so much. I'm very sorry about Trudy. I know how much you loved her."

" Yes..thank you. " Jack winced as he said this. It had only been 4 months since the accident. He was still in mourning.

Soon, the food was on the table. Jack ate rather quickly as his mother went on about the nieghbors, and their doings.

He stood up, thanked his mother for the meal, and went out to the van, and unpacked everything, then took the van to the nearest company to return it. He took a cab home, as his mother had trouble driving.

In the following months, Jack had resumed his job at home of selling his artwork online. He threw himself into his work. He had to, or lonelieness and a deep, consuming sorrow would set in.

One afternoon, he just sat at his desk for a while and thought about his family.....

Jack and his mother got along pretty well. She was a kind woman who had her own sewing business for many years, until arthritis had afflicted her hands badly, then she had retired. She'd had to work after her husband left her.

Jack had an older sister. Her name was Donna. She was 5 years older than he. Donna was a heavyset woman. She had an equally heavy husband, and four children who were just like Donna, and all were obnoxious.Jack and his sister did not get along. Jack had always been close with his mother, and Donna was their father's little girl. She married late in life, and both she and her husband had to work two jobs to support the children, and because Jack's father was not very generous at helping his children, even though he was quite a wealthy man.

To their father, who had left their mother over 30 years ago, Donna could do no wrong, and he had never hit her or yelled at her, where as, Jack had been his father's whipping boy. If the man came home in a bad mood, which was nearly all the time, he took it out on Jack. He abused Jack verbally and physically.

Jack had feared his father as a child, and still did at age 40. His father had a violent temper. He'd beat Jack for such things as dropping a pea accidentally on the floor during a meal, spilling milk at the dinner table, and when Jack was 17, he dropped a two dollar light bulb, so his father beat him, and smashed Jack's car with a sledge hammer.

Jack had a talent for drawing from an early age. He drew his favorite superheroes when he was a child, then got into drawing portraits, landscapes, etc, as he grew older. His father, who had no creative talents, mocked Jacks' artistic abilities, and called it " Drawing little men. "

That was what his father called his artwork. Little men.

Jack's father was a big , heavy set man, six foot two with grey thinning hair, and angry, intense green eyes. He rarely smiled, unless he was watching a Tv show where people would get hurt or die in explosions or a hail of bullets. then he'd sit and laugh. He remarried less than six months after the divorce to a woman he'd been sleeping with almost the entire marriage to Jack's mother..a shrew of a woman who'd been young and beautiful, but who had put on a hundred pounds as she got older.

Jack's father had treated his mother badly, too. He never hit Jack's mother, but did put her down verbally quite badly to her face. Though Jack's mother, whose name was Carol, had been a good mother and faithful wife, her husband, whose name was Hector, had been a poor father, and often slept with other woman. He cheated on his second wife, too.

Jack went to college briefly, but dropped out. He then moved in with his mother. He'd had to live with his father after the divorce, until he'd left home, because Jack's father wanted to hurt the mother by taking her children away from her. After he left college, Jack began creating and selling his own artwork. He was good at it, and thus managed to support himself that way.

Jack thought about all this, then returned his concentration to his day to day existance.

The seasons passed quickly now. Jack did try dating but nothing ever came of it. None of the woman he met were as beautiful as Trudy, nor were they as intelligent or as clever with words as she had been.

Taz grew older. He remained a true friend to Jack. His mother loved Taz, too. Taz slept with Jack, and responded mostly to him, but he would also get in Jack's Mother's lap, and purr as she petted him.

Sometimes, Taz would get out of the house, and Jack would have to chase him down. Taz thought his was great sport! He was fast, but eventually, Jack was always able to coax Taz back to him. Taz loved Jack, and Jack loved Taz.

" This is a VERY special cat. " Jack's mother told him one night while they were both on the couch watching " Gone With The Wind " on the tv. Taz was sleeping peacefully in Jack's mother's lap.

" I know," he said, and smiled at the sight of the two of them together.

Jack had always felt guilty about Trudy's death since it happened, because she was doing something for him. She had gone to buy him a cake on his birthday. He'd told her it would be ok if she just made a cake for him. All the nessecary ingredients were already in the fridge. She was dead set on buying a store bought cake for him. Jack had a bad feeling about her going out that day, and he felt he could have done a lot better to persuade her not to go. She became annoyed with Jack, kissed him, smiled, and got into her car and went to the market. A pick up truck at an intersection had run a red light and hit her head on at 60 miles per hour. He felt she would still be alive if he hadn't been hesitant about confrontation, and had insisted that she not go. The guilt gnawed at his conscience like wolves eating a fresh kill.

Jack had stayed in touch with his friend Mike, who was the one who had introduced Jack and Trudy. He was the only real friend Jack had after Trudy died. One day, he had a heart attack and died, leaving behind a wife and two children. Jack missed him very much. Mike was a big burly man, with a neatly trimmed moustache and a rather jovial disposition.

The years passed. Jacks' mother was now in a wheel chair, and needed a LOT of help from Jack just to do her every day chores. Jack did not mind helping her, even though it was tiring having to do everything around the house. She was his mother and he loved her.

Eventually, Jack's mother grew weaker, but he did not put her into a nursing home. He knew she'd rather die than go into one. At age 85, she caught pnuemonia, had to be hospitalized, and died shortly after.

Jack cried a lot the first few days. He phoned his sister, knowing full well she would call their father and tell him straight away.

He told her, and the first thing she said was, " What's in the will for me? "

" Donna, your mother just died and that's ALL you can say about her? " , Jack asked her angrily, barely able to keep from shouting at her.

'' Yes, stupid, now tell me....or I'll call dad..and let him ask you. "

Jack shuddered at the mention of his father. They both knew he owned several guns. " For protection. ", He'd always told them. Jack knew he was in trouble, even though their was a will this time, he knew his father would want him out of the house so that his sister could sell it and get the money to support her family.

" You do what you have to do, and I'll do what I have to do. " he calmly told her, forming a plan in his head. If his father DID come to Jack's house and tried making him leave, maybe his father would hit him, and leave marks on him. Then he might be able to have his father thrown in jail. It was risky business. He knew " Daddy Dearest " always took a handgun where ever he went.

" What does that mean? ", his sister demanded, in her usual condescending tone.

He hung up on Donna. That gave him some satisfaction.
His mother had told him not to let Donna and his father walk all over him. Over the years, at age 58 now, he had finally learned to be more assertive.

Donna came to the funeral with her husband and two children. She almost never visited her mother after she had gotten married at age 18 and moved out, but was now playing the part of the dutiful daughter in mourning.

She had the same cold, emotionless look in her eyes she'd always had. Her eyes reminded Jack of a shark.

She approached Jack, and asked him again, " What is in the will for me? ", she asked in an annoyed voice.

" You'll find out next week, we aren't going to talk about that now. ", he coldly informed her.

" Okay. " She smiled and did not speak to him the rest of the funeral, which was at the town funeral home. Their were a lot of pink carnations and pink roses there in the funeral parlor. Jack knew they were his mother's favorites, and did not mind spending the extra money on them.

Jack spoke of how his mother had worked hard for many years, had been a loving mother and a good wife to a man who could have cared less, and who had treated her like shit the entire 17 years they'd been married. After their divorce, Hector gave his ex wife only a tiny amount of child support, and merely laughed at her whenever she asked for more.

She encouraged Jack to do his artwork, praised him,and would have sent him to art school had she had the money. Jack's father merely laughed when, after his high school graduation, he asked his father to send him to art school.

Jack's father had merely smiled and said, " Not with my money, Baby! You can go to college or trade school, or get a job, but no art school for you. "

Jack's mother had persevered through a lot in her life, and still managed to retain her good disposition and caring ways.

During Jack's speech, his sister, Donna, just sat there and stared at him, her face an emotionless mask that did not betray the comtempt she held for her brother. She got up and said only a few words about her mother, only that she had worked hard to be able to reward her children upon her demise. Donna allowed herself a small smile when she was done, and glared at Jack.

After the funeral, Jack went home alone. He did not invite Donna to the house. He did not like her before his mother died, and he liked her even less now.

He found the front door unlocked, and knew something was very wrong immediately . He smelled the bad odor of a cheap cigar.

He saw his father, sitting on the couch with his feet up on the coffee table.

'' Hello, son. " He said sarcastically, smiling at Jack, wearing a very smug expression on his aged face.

To be continued.

" Daddy Dearest "

Part 3, by Beardguy.

Jack looked at his father. He wasn't shocked at all that he had broken into the house and had made himself comfortable. He was thinking about someone else now.

Jack's only concern was Taz. Taz was now 18 years old. Taz was still in very good health. Or had been, until now. Jack did not trust his father. He had gotten a pair of siamese kittens when Jack was 8 years old, and Jack had been put in charge of them. They were brother and sister. They were quite active, and into everything. They were soon declawed, but after only a month of their being in the house, Jack's father had grown weary of all the noise and things being knocked over and broken.

Jack came home from school one day to find that the litter boxes, food and water bowls were gone. So were the kittens.

Jack asked his father where the kittens were.

" What kittens? " He asked his son.

Jack never found out what had happened to those two kittens. He suspected even as a child that his father had killed them, but could not prove it.

Back in the present, Jack was frantically looking for Taz. He was fairly certain his father had already disposed of his cat.

" Taz! Taz, where are you? Here kitty, kitty. "

'' Who are you talking to? " his father flatly asked Jack.

Jack ignored his father. He searched all of Taz's favorite hiding places, but he was nowhere to be found.

" Come here, God dammit! I'm talking to you! " His father yelled at him.

Jack wanted to say something back to his father, but all he could think of right now was Taz. If his father had hurt that cat, he would pay for it, somehow. Taz was all he had left now. Everyone else who had ever loved him was dead.

" What have you done with my cat??? " Jack screamed at his father.

His father stood up slowly. He just looked at jack, the anger in his eyes increasing by the second..and was shocked to see his anger matched in the look his 58 year old son was giving him.

" Where is my cat? " Jack said loudly.

" What cat? ", The older man asked, grinning at Jack.

" That's it. You get OUT of my house now! " Jack said very sternly. He walked over to the front door and opened it.

" I'm not going anywhere, until you sign these papers. " He said, and took some papers that were stapled together out of a black briefcase he had with him, and handed them to Jack.

Jack took them and scanned quickly through them. He couldn't believe what he was reading. It was a legal document, telling him that he could not live in the home that was his, because his sister needed to sell it and use the money to help support her family.

" I will NOT sign these papers! " Jack shouted, as he tore them up, and threw the pieces in his father's face.

" You pick that up! Now!!" His father bellowed, his face red with anger. " You are NOT staying here! "

" Fuck you, Dad. " Jack said with a smile.

" What did you say to me? " Hollered the angry older man.

" You heard me. Fuck you, and get out of my house, before I call the police and tell them you killed my cat. " Jack said calmly.

" You take that back..now! " His father drew a 45 handgun from a holster under his black dress jacket.

" Or what? If you kill me, you'll go to jail. You'll love prison...and I'm sure your fellow criminals would love an asshole like you. " Jack said, not caring about much of anything anymore. He hoped Taz had not suffered when his father had killed him. Tears welled up in his eyes at the thought of his father murdering his cat.

" I'll give you one last chance to take back what you said"

Jack was proud of himself at that moment. He'd always been too afraid of his father to stand up to him. He knew as a child as he knew now, it could mean his death. It had eaten at him badly, knowing he'd never stood his ground against his father. Now he was, no matter what the consequences. He was sweating. He was afraid. He was not going to back down, no matter what.

" Fuck you, you sick asshole! " Jack shouted at his father.

Hector fired the gun at his son. A loud bang sounded. Jack fell to the floor. The bullet had gone straight through Jack's heart. He fell to the floor, dead. He never felt a thing.

The blood ran from his chest, and made a puddle on the lighter colored floor.

Hector's eyes betrayed not even the slightest sign of remorse.

He pulled out a cell phone and used the speed dial to call his daughter, Donna.

" Hi pumpkin, " He greeted her, as he sat back on the couch, and puffed on his cigar.

'' The house is all yours. Have your husband and his friend, Donny, come to the house. I need them to help clean up a mess. "

He ended the conversation by telling his daughter that he loved her.

A half hour later, the two men arrived. They saw Jack on the floor, dead, and just laughed.

" What a loser. " said Donna's husband, Fred.

" Yeah! " Laughed Donny.

They picked him up and put him into an old trunk they had brought. Then they cleaned up all the blood, and used a cleaning compound that would render luminol, a chemical used to detect traces of blood, useless.

Hector took Jack's cat, Taz, who was dead in a trash bag, strangled with a rope by the big man, into the trunk with Jack's body.

He laughed as he did this.

The three men left the house. It had been the silent witness to two murders that day.

Several days later, people began to wonder where Jack was.

There was no criminal investigation. Their were no witnesses. Jack, it seemed, had simply disappeared. It was rumored that he was distraught over his mother's death, and had gone away and commited suicide.

It seemed that Jack's father, Hector, had gotten away with murder.

End part 3. To be concluded!

Daddy Dearest part 4

Conclusion.

A story by Beardguy

Jack's father's health had declined rapidly in the months that followed Jack's murder. He had a heart attack, a bad one, and a month or so after that, a stroke.

One year to the day of Jack's death, Jack's father, whose first name was Hector, had a major stroke and died, on the exact same time of day that his son had died.

The last thought on his mind had been how good it had felt to kill his own son. He'd played the scene over and over in his head, watching Jack fall dead to the floor.

He could not see that day what had happened to Jack a few seconds AFTER he'd shot and killed him.

Jack had felt nothing, no pain at all. His death had been instantaneous. And then he'd sat right up. He looked around. He saw his father on the phone, talking with his sister. He saw his own right hand. It was surrounded by a whitish blue glow. So was the rest of him.

He looked down and saw his dead body. It startled him. He saw the puddle of blood which grew larger on the floor around his lifeless body. He gasped in disbelief. It was at that moment he realized that he had died, and all that was left was his soul, the essence of who he'd been. His body, now an empty shell, had merely been the vessel that had transported his soul.

He looked rather intently at his father. He felt intense anger for a few moments. It faded almost instantly. He'd actually done Jack a favor. Everyone who had loved him, and whom he had loved, was now dead.

And now, Jack was dead, too.

He looked again at his father, now feeling totally indifferent. Jack did not know it then, but his father would die a year to the day after he'd killed Jack. Jack also didn't know that, after his Dad had died from a stroke, He'd went straight to God, who had manifested himself as an angry looking white bearded giant. Jack's father had begged for mercy, but to no avail. God did not send him to hell. God did not even speak to him. He simply waved his hand, and simply made Jack's evil father vanish into nothingness. He was gone. There was was no chance for him to come back and hurt anybody ever again.

Jack became used to the idea of being a spirit now. He wondered what was next? Would he be doomed to wander the Earth as a disembodied spirit?

As if to answer his unspoken question, a shimmering blue - white light appeared before him. At first it was egg shaped, with blue tendrils or fibers appearing from it's sides. It made a low pitched hum, Jack found the hum quite soothing.

It started to change into a human shape. Even before it was finished it's transformation, Jack knew who it was.

It was Trudy.

She now appeared as she had looked to Jack on the day she had died. She was wearing the same white short sleeve shirt and blue jeans she wore the day of the accident.

" Hi, sweetie....It's good to see you again. "

" Trudy....I missed you so much.." Tears welled up in Jack's eyes.

He walked towards her and gave her a big hug.

" I missed you, too, Jack. " Trudy said as they embraced.
Her eyes became a bit teary, too.

" There's someone else here who loves you. ", She told him, as she pointed behind Jack's right shoulder.

Jack looked behind him. There, on the floor, striding towards him, was Taz, looking as healthy as he had when he'd only been a year old or so.

" Taz! Taz, you're ok! " Jack exclaimed, a broad smile on his face.

Taz jumped right up into Jack's arms and purred loudly. He cried as he petted Taz, who purred loudly in Jack's arms.

" Sometimes, I think you love that cat more than you love me. ", Trudy said, smiling.

Jack laughed, as did Trudy. They kissed.

" Shall we go now? Your mother, Mike and a few other people are waiting to see you. "

" Sure." "....Uh, go where? " Jack said, a little hesitantly.

" To a place you've seen before in your dreams. A good place. ", Trudy reassured Jack.

" Ok.", Jack told her. They both ignored Jack's father as he sat and chatted on the phone, laughing and smoking his cigar.

A few seconds later, a bright light appeared. It was an eight foot tall, eight foot wide spheroid shaped portal. It was shimmering, like water on a clear, sunny day.

" Take my hand, Jack, we'll go through together. "

And they held hands as they went through the portal, Jack holding onto Taz, and the woman he loved.

They disappeared into it, and the portal closed up and vanished after them.

And Jack was happy again.

I haven't read them yet either.
I skimmed one of two of them, then I had to bash my head against the wall to try to forget what I read.
