If you think about it, a guy like Batman, who more or less raised himself (with the help of Alfred, who was, let's face it, actually Bruce's employee), is not going to have the most well developed sense of parental responsibility. Like most "parents," he is going to raise a child in more or less the same way he was raised. Which, in his case, meant "as an orphan who trains to fight crime and travels the world fighting crime."
