Penn is the fucking glory hound,taking a fucking camera man was little more than a publicity stunt to raise his media profile by making him a hero. All he did in the end was show himself up for the twat he really is.
You will note that nobody is ripping on Travolta. And the reason behind that is Travolta actually did some good,and wasnt totally self serving. He coulda fitted a whole film crew in his jet if he had wanted to,but he didnt! If Penn was serious about his rescue attempt,why didnt he get a better boat & try again?
