TNA is the highest profile NWA promotion right now, much like Georgia Championship Wrestling was in the eighties. There are several other smaller regional affiliates scattered around the country.
The WWE split from the NWA after a championship title dispute in 1963. The AWA split from them sometime during the eighties, although they worked together at times (mostly in attempts to compete with Vince).
GCW was sold to Ted Turner in 89, who renamed it World Championship Wrestling, which was an NWA member until sometime in 92, when they split completely.
