I don't know how things work down there in Vegemiteville, but that is hardly an obscure part of history. The entire concept of "The Old West", outlaws, and cowboys have been a huge part of America's pop culture for decades. It even gained popularity abroad as shown by Sergio Leone's Spaghetti Westerns and Akira Kurosawa's John Ford inspired "Easterns" like Yojimbo and Seven Samurai.
