In an effort to make this forum a little less nintendo biased (even though I helped create animosity towards other systems), I bought an Xbox.
It's a good system. Fast, lots of games, lots of potential. Have Halo, Brute Force, and the two games it came with. I tried out Castle Wolfenstein, but that sucks.
Anyways, with Halo 2 and the Chtlutu game coming out (remember Eternal Darkness?), I see a bright future. Fable looks cool too.
Still love Nintendo of course, but I figured I should expand my game-playing options. Gotta go!

that's what the people at the store were telling me. But there is a problem. I need a cable connection or something. I would need to move into a new place for that. Trust me, I want one though. Did you get an Xbox?
Forgot a game. Metal Gear: Substance. After beating Splinter Cell, I needed some more umm. substance.

naw, no xbox for me. and, really, just for that reason -- its not for me.
the biggest plus, in my eyes, to the xbox is the online play via LIVE. personally, im just not into network games. but for those that are, xbox provides the best service of any console. really, not only are they the only ones doing it well, they're the only ones doing it! its a great package, good features, good price, etc. it really gets the most from the system, and helps to differentiate it from the others.
not to say that its horrible without the LIVE functions... its just a tremendous add on when y'got it.

It's me, TK! Still same old funn-loving Soy! I just looked at the E3 list and figured "Holy Shit, I am going to be missing out on some cool stuff..."
I still play my Gamecube a lot, it has my favorite characters and I am eagerly awaiting Starfox Armada and Metal Gear: The Silicon Cut. But, this kind of goes back to when Microsoft paid a for those levels in the Spider-man game featuring Kraven. Dunno about you, but Kraven was my favorite Spidey Villain. Nice to see the Hunter, if only for a short time.
So, I looked into the pro's and con's. Con: Spewing out another 200 bucks for system (well 150 when my coupon comes back). Kind of bulky, trouble need to get an adapter allowing me to use both systems on my TV without having to remove cables constantly. Has DVD features, but no off/on button.
Pro's better graphics, potentially better speed. The custom soundtrack feauture (wish more games would use it, I currently have Beastie Boys and other stuff loaded in). No worries on size of games. GTAIII coming out next year for it. Halo is actually pretty awesome. Co-op shooters are cool. Only had small chance to try that out in Perfect Dark before... Brute Force is cool also.
To be honest, it has a huge upside. Nintendo arguably has the best first-party licenses, and that is why I bought the system. But games that appear on all systems usually end up a little better on Xbox... unless they come up for Nintendo several months later, in which case the manufacturers get a chance to address player-gripes.
Anyways, take a look at the most impressive games from E3, and take a look at the list of games from E3. See who has the most coming their way.
Not converting, mind you, just becoming more open-minded.

I have to say this E3 is the worst I can remember in recent years. The hand-held system from Sony looks like it will be amazing if they can pull everything off. As for games I'm surprised Sony didn't hit me the way I thought they would. From what I've read through Gamers.com Nintnedo didn't have much. The only game they praised was Mario Cart. That really surprised me. As far as the X-Box goes, they will take care of my "Live" needs. Did anything really jump out at the rest of you?

In Xbox news, Halo 2 looked interesting of course, as did Fable and Sudeki. Medal of Honor: Pacific yada yada poses cool features.
I get Gameinformer, and two of the games that really stick out for me are Spider-man 2 and Tony Hawk: Underground. Spidey can now go up 60 some stories and run on the pavement. Game takes place in a 8 square kilometer version of Manhattan. Was tired of spidey dying when he reached below a certain place on the height meter.
True Crime sounds promising. I really want to see that. Wonder how the Xbox version of GTA will look.
Nintendo... hurm... Rogue Leader 3 was the most interesting exclusive. I am not a Mario Kart player. Wait, I forgot Starfox Armada. That sounds promising. I have a headache.

i have to agree.
i think all three consoles had a pretty lackluster showcase. there were certainly some hilites from each, but...
really, the only strong display for originality and gameplay, not to mention soon-to-be-released games (hyping games for 2004 is ridiculous) was the computer! pc games really stole the show, expanding their horizons, title list, and blowing away viewers with graphics and such.
consoles should feel threatened

I agree as well, also on the PC comment. I used to be a console freak (I sprained my thumb because of Killer Instinct, and it just got worse) but once I went hardcore on the PC (no this isn't a porno) I never went back! I watch some friends play all kinds of games on all of the consoles and they really just don't cut it. The problem is scalability with PC's. But now you're getting that with the Xbox as well (with Audio and video upgrades, TCP tweaks, and much more) so it's still PC for me. Doom3 (which will destroy all other games) is obviously gonna be for PC but they chose Xbox for immediate release after the PC. So it kind of dictates the market I guess. Of course, it's being released on the Nvidia chipset for MAc first as a test. (so what the heck do I know) With the upgrades on the Xbox, Doom3 should look great and be very playable online (if you have that aforementioned cable modem!). I have seen some of the other mentioned games in this post for Xbox and I agree, and not too impressed with them, but id software is probably gonna turn this around. Cya on Mars!

SO FAR I'M TH EONLY ONE IN MY FAMILY WITH AN x-BOX.
All my nephews, despite wanting and preferring an X-Box over a PS2, got saddled with PS2's by their stupid parents due to the simple fact that they "understand" the PS2 due to the hype and brand familiarity. Not to mention all the discounted games Playstation offers.
Of course my console is the one that gets used at get-togethers.

X-Box'es now come with some dinky little controller that should be child-sized. It was rightly derided in the Official X-box magazine though. What gamer would want to admit they have little girl hands.
I personally hate that smaller controller. The big one is more in line with an adults hands which is as it should be since X-box was intended as a gamers system wheras PS2 and especially The GameCube are marketed more towards kids.

That's my biggest..if not only, complaint with X-Box..the controller makes some games difficult to play easily..on others it's not a problem though..

As far as the Nintendo bias on these boards that was brought up above... quote: The console market has largely become a two-horse race for share, with Nintendo (news - web sites) Co. Ltd.'s GameCube underperforming all expectations and lagging behind the Xbox and PS2 in most markets.

i just like the fact that the microsoft numbers are from microsoft, and not a third party counter, like all other sales figures are determined by.
microsoft was adamant about stressing their newly gained #2 status at (or just after) e3. both sony and nintendo were adamant about stressing they disagree.
one of the many problems with console wars is that there are no standardized tracking devices. nintendo and sony use the same global tracker, as they're japan-based companies, which is why their figures and reports are always the same. xbox uses their own because they're microsoft, and thats what microsoft does (in addition to the US having different practices). still another figure provider is the retail market... which can even be broken down further into the individual outlets and chains.
so, in some figures, the xbox is in second. in others, the gamecube is. follow whichever'll make you happy. if an article states your console sells 3 more units than mine, and that somehow makes it more fun to you, well then party on.
when it all comes down to it, the ps2 has roughly the same amount of units in america than the xbox and gamecube do combined, worldwide! so if your fun factor is determined by sales figures, only sony fans are living it up.
sorry.

The numbers I have come from EGM not Microsoft Rob. Don't stress to much though. Also, the sales figures posted in the most recent EGM magazine are from retale sales, not what Microsoft handed the folks at EGM. You can't handle the truth can you? The GC is presently #3 on the console chart. Sorry but that's just the way it is right now.

By the way, the figures posted in the EGM this month are world wide sales figures not units shipped figures. Sony is so far ahead both Nintendo and Microsoft could combine and still loose out. Lets face it, Sony has a way of doing things right. I love my X-Box but I can admit when another company is kicking the heck out of X-Box sales. Also, the PS2 has so many good games that cover every taste a person could have. The only reason I do not put the PS2 over my X-Box is the live play. My GC has done exactly what I wanted and that is to give me my RE games. Outside of that I really didn't see much else Nintendo had to offer that interested me. I'm glad you have gotten some great things out of it. It's just what you want in a game system, that's great.

like i said above, various reports give various rankings. for example, both famicom and best buy (which has what they call a "grand report," meaning it covers all retailers, not just them) have gamecube above xbox as recently as june 2003. microsoft's general report lists xbox above gamecube. sony's reports list gamecube above xbox.
you can support whatever one you want. they could all be wrong, for all we know. i think the safest bet is to say the cube and box are tight in sales, and both way behind sony.
but again, do sales really matter to you that much? if xbox had only sold 4 systems world wide in the past 2 years, would you enjoy it any less?
i don't care who owns a gamecube. i don't even care who likes the gamecube. that shouldn't matter to a gamer. just have fun with what you've got.

and here is more proof that sales figures are so diverse and varied. this article clearly points out nintendo's lead over microsoft. quote: Nintendo has sold 9.6 million GameCube consoles so far, while selling 37 million GameBoy Advance machines around the world. Microsoft Corp. has shipped 9.4 million Xbox machines worldwide.
here, not only does this associated press article show nintendo has a lead of 200,000 consoles, it also states that the nintendo number is for gamecubes sold, while the xbox number is for console's shipped (i.e; could still be on store shelves).
make whatever you want from them.
if anything, this article points out how pointless the numbers are, since there are such incredible variations in them.
follow whichever one you want.
i'll pick none of them and just play some games! ![[biiiig grin]](images/icons/grin.gif)

Yep. The 9.4 million is what EGM has Nintendo listed as sold while the same article has the X-Box selling just over 13 million. The only one that really cares is the lucky dog cashing the check. I rather have Sony numbers.
